How do you deal with one cpap and three curious long haired cats?

1. Introduce the kitties to the machine.

2. If they act like they think it's a toy, tell them NO. And repeat. Lots. And Lots. AND LOTS.

You do not want to have an adventure like mine with a new puppy:

Take the mask off the hose, blow air in their faces. They will leave it alone and won't come near it. Cruel? No, effective.

So, how long did it take Babette to get over her separation anxiety?

I was wrong about the air. I'll just have to beat 'em with a rubber hose.

Have you thought about getting them each their own cpap so they do not use yours. You could all sleep in bed at night looking like aquanauts. It would all be very cute.

Well, many fire departments carry pet oxygen masks so perhaps pet cpap machines are in the pipeline?

Sorry Jenny62 for my OT response as I couldn't resist. Unfortunately, I don't have any good solutions but definitely empathize with your situation. There is no doubt in my mind that I would have had a hard time keeping the cat I had many years ago away from my machine.

I have 6 cats, some of which were here when I first got my machine(s) and some that came after. NONE of them have shown more than slight curiosity. I'll probably jinx myself, but they've never clawed or chewed on any of it. Once in a while, one will sit on my chest and sniff the mask, but they lose interest very quickly.

With my mouth closed while I sleep (chin strap). I do not like cat hair in my mouth. Only one cat gets on the bed and she cuddles with my wife after crawling over me. I sleep through most of it.

My cats did an initial sniff and wet satisfied that it wasn't dangerous. I do share hotel rooms with friends and their cats. One cat woke me by slapping the mask. I opened my eyes as he cautiously came forward again. Once he had checked it out, he was fine. I am still using my first hose from a year and a half ago. There is an occasional power button turned off. I do keep it in a closed drawer when not using it.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

do you suppose that cats think the CPAP hose is a wild animal's tail? I just wonder what they are thinking
