Post by sleepgem » Thu Sep 19, 2013 2:15 pm

Has anyone tried this device? I just came acroos some email about this device and sounds interesting. Wonder if anyone has tried it and how has been their experience with it (?).

One forum member that I know of has tried the Winx and written about it.

I thought Apnicure went under and was bought by some other company, no?

I tried it. Sadly, I couldn't keep my mouth shut, so it didn't work for me. Would have loved to have just slept with a couple of stickers on my nose.

Since the Winx uses suction, that would be the one to avoid after a dental extraction.

Sounds interesting for only some OSA people. Anyway, it's great to think outside the box. Also: Pugsy always knows where to find the past posts, total recall IMO. I can barely remember my own posts.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Maybe there's some way to create a mouth seal using tape or chin-up strips?

Last night was my first night with Winx. I got 2 hours of sleep with it before I took it out. Those 2 hours of sleep were broken, possibly because my husband was reading with a bright light. However, after 2 hours, I had this urge to swallow, which is super difficult with the Winx in. The roof of my mouth felt funny, too. I took out the Winx, and the roof of my mouth towards the back was swollen from the suction. My tongue had indentations of my teeth. It was all uncomfortable. So I switched to my CPAP. I'm going to try again tonight.

Yes, it takes some getting used to. Once you are sleeping with it, the place where you got the Winx should have a program to read the SD card. All it tells you is what percentage of the night was spent with suction and what percent was not. I figured there was no point to having a sleep study done with it unless I (1) maintained suction the vast majority of the night, and (2) my daytime symptoms were improved.

Just FYI, the machine is on sale now for $250 through the end of the year. Apnicure told me it typically retails for around $900, so quite the deal. (Users can return for a full refund within 30 days, as well).

CPAP blows (literally!), so I'm definitely thinking about giving this a go.

So, cpap blows. (wasn't that the title of Mike Moran's book?)
Well, people, Winx sucks.
