S9 noise upon inhalation

Post by CardinalPalmz » Mon Sep 16, 2013 5:42 pm

I have mentioned this issue in one of my previous posts (about something else) but I'd like to get more details about it. I wonder if it is normal to hear Darth Vader sound coming from the S9 Autoset at pressure from 10-11 cm H2O whenever you inhale. I tried to find out where the sound originated from, and found that the sound is loudest at the air intake hole on the machine. I've tried the following but it has not removed the noise:
- checked and repositioned filter
- made sure the humidifier is tightly sealed and connected well to the machine
- put the machine on folded towel
- made sure the hose doesn't leak
- put on white noise or ear plugs (which couldn't really remove the conducted noise)

I'm surprised that this issue happens with such a new machine. Ironically, the reason I bought S9 in the first place was because my S8 elite started making the same type of noise and I couldn't stand it. I have an option to send the machine back to the vendor for evaluation, but it could take up to 10 business days including transit time, and they couldn't provide any loaner. That means I'd be without a CPAP for about 2 weeks. I just want to make sure that it's not that somehow my mind became messed up such that I became over-sensitized to the sound that normally would exist. Will appreciate any input. Thanks.

What surface is the machine on? Is it lower than your bed, up next to you, or what?

Anything that may have changed even when you had the old machine?

Have you tried a brand new hose?

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
