2nd night in the books.

Post by mabzmuzik » Wed Sep 11, 2013 7:18 am

Well I have had my CPAP for 2 days now. first night logged in 3 hours with mask on. 2nd night logged 2 hours with mask on. My biggest issue seems to be I am removing the mask at night but have no memory of why I am doing that. My wife says she woke me up and asked me "shouldn't you be sleeping with your mask on?" and I responded "Oh @$#%(poop)" and I put the mask back on. I see those 2 different sessions in SleepyHead software. Anyone have a startup like this? my wife did mention that the machine reminded her of an airplane. 1st night I used ramp up. 2nd night I just started with the prescribed 11 pressure. I think I isolated the extra noise she heard from the noise pillow not being all the way seated on the Pilairo. It came of yesterday and I had to put it back on. Of course it was after I had fallen asleep without mask woke up and got setup. Thanks again to everyone here who have helped and who will continue to help me with the adjustment into CPAP. I am excited for tonight. I am determined to get 6 to 8 hours of sleep with CPAP on!

This is an extremely common problem.

The best recommendations I have heard are to try to wear the mask (with CPAP on) while watching TV, etc ... you need to convince your sub-conscious mind that the mask belongs there.

Once you get used to it you'll be fine.

You're way better off that those that find they can't fall asleep with it on. That's a bigger struggle!

Short term for mask removing and not realizing it...make it a little more difficult to accomplish the mask removal.
The Pilairo is super easy to remove due to minimal headgear. Try putting a little bit of tape over the side straps to your cheeks so that if you remove the mask the discomfort associated with mask removal might wake you up so that you can stop the unwanted behavior.
