Supplies

Post by CpapDude2012 » Thu Aug 15, 2013 8:55 pm

My dme wont send me more than one filter and one cushion at a time. Some others i have spoken with say they get their supplies for 3 or 6 months At a time. Does it have to do with insurance? Or is my dme just lazy?

Hard to tell. It might be when your insurance will pay.

Resmed owners manual recommends changing the filter on the S9 every 6 months...sooner if necessary. Also..the cushion on your Quattro should last 3-6 months...(could be more or less). Your DME may be following that or your insurance restrictions.

You need to get the replacement schedule specific to your insurance coverage.

Most insurances follow the Medicare replacement schedule which allows 2 disposable filters per month and also 2 cushions pre month.
And Medicare DOES allow you to get certain supplies in 6 month quantities (Filters and cushions are both so allowed by Medicare).

But, your insurance does NOT have to follow the Medicare replacement schedule. So, get a copy of their replacement schedule.

Once you know what your insurance will allow, the DME must adhere to that schedule.

Do be aware however that you are usually not eligible for replacement based on the schedule frequency alone. You must have a NEED for that particular item to be replaced.
