Quattro AIR....ZERO LEAKS????

Post by Gabe » Sun Aug 11, 2013 8:39 am

I went to pick up the new Quattro Air FFM the other day. I was fitted and I told the RT that my leaks averaged 44m/l (I assume this is the right term). He said that he has ZERO(????)leaks with his Quattro Air FFM. I had leaks. What is your take on this? Gabe

Guessing perhaps you were stating "Total Leaks" and he was just stating "Leaks"?

Hi Gabe,

Well, I sensed I had zero leaks when I put it on during brief trial periods. The catch? I had to severely tighten it to achieve that result which completely negates the advantage of it being light at least in my situation. And yes, I carefully followed the instruction from resmed's site.

What machine are you using? If you have a resmed 9 autoset, yup, you are definitely experiencing them. But with other machines, that may be an acceptable rate depending on your situation. I will let the leak experts give more details

To answer your question, as with any mask, it depends. I just hope the RT wasn't writing off your experience just because his was smooth with the air.

The PR S1 machine that Gabe uses and his software is reporting Total Leak which of course includes the mask's expected vent rate.
So the vent rate plus any excess leak...with that machine and software he can't see a 0.0 leak number. Even if there are zero excess leaks there is always going to be the mask's expected vent rate number at his pressure.

I suspect the RT was referring to excess leak only and to say a general statement that the mask "has zero leaks" is a rather wishful thinking statement that might be true for one person and not another person.
It's like any other mask out there...some people can manage to pretty much not have any excess leaks with it and the next person might never be able to reach that result. There's not a mask out there that is a perfect fit/match to every face and person out there.
If there were we all would be using the same mask and be quite happy.
