Full mask with alternate air port location ?

Post by qwertydvorak » Sat Aug 03, 2013 9:45 pm

I am using a full mask with the air input port right in front of my mouth. This is blowing my lips wide open and drying the front part of my mouth out badly even with high humidity setting. I am wondering if they make a mask where the air blows across my face from the side or one where the port is higher near my nose or at an angle blowing right on my lips ? I can't always breathe out of my nose so nose mask instead isn't an option. Thanks in advance for looking.

It's not so much that it couldn't be done. It only seems that hasn't been achieved in any current FF mask models.
The only one that seems to meet your requirements right now is the PR Total Face mask. It's not for everyone, but then what mask is, eh?

An alternative might be to try a decent chin strap (perhaps the ruby or the papcap) and an inexpensive boil-and-bite mouth guard from target or walmart to see if that will reduce dry-mouth. Some people even mouth tape inside their full face masks, so that's another alternative.

Good night!

This might work; I've used a couple of small pieces to seal my lips instead of taping or using a chin strap (with a nasal mask) .

You could also try using Biotene oral gel before masking up.

Try the respCare Hybrid which has a chip flap to help keep you jaw closed. The right size mouth pillow also encourages the lips to stay closed.

It sounds like you are suffering from blowfish syndrome. Spend your spare time holding your tongue to the roof of your mouth, against your top teeth, then create a suction to hold it in place. This will help train your body to stop mouthbreathing and blowfish, you need to practice this any time you can.

All my FF masks have alternative vent sights, most of them are around the seal surface. Jim

I can't keep my mouth sealed because Iam unable to breathe well through my nose. I have allergy / sinus issues. But thank you for your reply. From what I can tell when I wake up my mouth is closed and past my teeth is still moist, but my lips are curled around and glued to my gums. When I first got the cpap I slept with my mouth open fully and this wasn't an issue. Lately I guess I have stopped keeping my mouth open since I am not fighting for air, but still unable to breathe through my nose. I don't care how bad it is because it will not stop me from wearing the miracle machine when I sleep.
