Kudos to our host

Post by jazzer4 » Thu Aug 01, 2013 12:55 pm

Yesterday (Wednesday) at 1:00 PM I ordered the TapPap from our host cpap.com.
Today (Thursday) at 1:40 PM it arrived at my door.
Saving $20.00 off the list price and no shipping cost.

Granted they are located in Texas and I live in Texas but I still think that's remarkable for both them and our postal system.

I'm ready to boil some water.

I ordered mine this morning, about an hour later I remembered I forgot to add disposable filters to my order... bummer. I called back and talked to Miriam and she was able to catch my TapPap order and add the filters to it. CPAP.Com to the rescue... thanks Miriam. I am counting the days until my TapPap is here .
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Re: Kudos to our host and fitting the TapPap

Fitting the TapPap

Oh my goodness! This is very nice!

Boiled my water and follow the directions.
When it cooled I put the mouthpiece in.
I'm used to a mouth guard, so it felt very comfortable.

Then I panicked. Couldn't get it out of my mouth.
First thought was is my dentist still open?

Finally got it out and still have all my teeth. ( Heed the warning about any loose teeth or fillings)

I repeated the boiling and dipping method and didn't suck so hard this time.

Perfect!

Put it together and layed down with the machine.

It leaked a bit, so I loosen the screw and adjusted the angle.

It's like a miracle. I tossed and turned and it just stayed in place.
When I stood up with it on it came apart from my heated hose. It seems like a very loose connection.
I have a swivel so I put it on and that was much tighter.

Pugsy is right you barely know you have it on.
We'll see how it works for me tonight.

Yep, I had a moment of panic also with my first attempt at fitting....I sucked way too much.
I think that this probably a common thing for us to tend to do...we don't do anything half assed.
They tell us to suck for 2 minutes and by jove we could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch in that 2 minutes.
It doesn't have to be skin tight to stabilize the nasal pillow part of the mask.
Last time I fitted my new mouth guard I barely sucked and then for only about 10 seconds and then I just let it cool and firm up in my mouth. Much easier on and off and no affect on the stability of the mask part at all.

That part that came loose. That's the swivel quick release and yes, sometimes it releases at little too easily but it also pops right back in just as easy.

Hope you do well with it tonight. The pillows don't move no matter how much tossing and turning I do. Any leaks I have I know without a doubt are mouth opening leaks and they don't happen often or last all that long and aren't bad enough to worry about impacting therapy.
I am to the point with the mask and the fit that I often wake up and don't realize I am wearing a mask at all or using the machine.
It just disappears from my senses.

Finally had some time to really read posts and checkout new stuff.
This mask becomes very interesting to me w/the dentist conclusion
I need to start wearing a night guard on my teeth.
I still have not decided on what to do about that.

Big question here for me....I'm a mouth breather.
That is why I use a FFM.
Would this work for me? or as soon as I fall asleep spit it out?

It sure does look easy.

......so what do you see in the crystal mist?

I don't think you would spit it out but the mouth might still come open. I know mine does on occasion but I have chosen to just shrug my shoulders about it because it rarely gets into large leak territory and doesn't wake me up.
So far in the past 2 months...not once have I hit large leak territory. Got close a couple of times but for very brief periods.
For the most part the mouth stays shut and if it does open there isn't a massive hurricane flowing out my mouth.

Cpap.com still has the free return insurance offered with it. If you hate it or you get hurricane's going out your mouth...you can always send it back.

I couldn't possibly spit out my mouthpiece, and in fact, it requires prying it out of my mouth. If I were caught in a tornado, I may suffer a head injury, but my teeth would be intact! Not difficult to remove, but I did suck on it too long and its very tight. I just haven't taken the time to re-do it.

Yes Kudos for their prompt service for sure !
Anyone have any negative input for the tap pap ? i will be eligible for a new mask next week and was considering the breeze or comfort lite nasal pillow mask. since the tap pap is seemingly new on the market i might replace the Aeiomed headrest with it t. my only concern is although i am only missing one upper tooth, i do have an extreme receding gums from 30 years of chewing tobacco ?

The gums could be a problem.
Healthy gums are more comfortable with a molded tray of any type.

This has been an engaging thread. CPAP.com is a truly thoughtful and helpful online equipment provider. Pugsy's chrome trailer hitch comparison is priceless! It's great that this works for as many people as it does. I think supergeeky was an early adopter of the TapPap, and he loves it. I wonder how well it works for mouth leakers. Are there any people out there who have switched from full-face to TapPap?

I have been using the Tap Pap for 4 months now. I have occasional bouts of mouth breathing, but after a night or 2 it usually goes away. I thought it might help having the humidity turned up a bit higher but I don't know. I think I am going to try turning it back down a little, because there have been a few nights recently when the moisture collects in the mask and it sets up a whistling noise which disturbs my sleep until I do something about it - wiping the exhaust ports usually stops the noise ( it seems to be caused by moisture in the exhaust holes).
I have also found I need to tighten the mask setting screw very tight (almost need pliers), as I am a restless sleeper, and if the setting of the pillow position changes during the night, leaks can develop.
Another problem that I have found is that I sometimes get an itchy nose where the pillows seat against the nostrils and I am thinking that this causes me to dislodge the pillows while I am sleeping and then there is nothing to do but turn the light on and refit the offending pillow. This doesn't happen very often, and the Tap Pap is still the best mask for me by a country mile - and I have tried a few different masks to date. So these issues are minor ones that don't happen very often.

No negatives from me, nor have I read any from others. I will say the original version had thicker material and my tongue fought for space, but with the new design, I don't have a complaint at all.

It does have a firm grip on your teeth, so if there are any dental issues in your front upper teeth, it is not advisable.
