Sleepyhead gone off the tracks again, any updates yet??

Post by racprops » Sun Jul 21, 2013 4:34 am

As above Sleepyhead has gone off the handle for the third time...

And creating a new profile is not working...

I can only guess it cannot handle so much data..it now reports my machine not as a bi flex+x2 but as a c-flex +2???

My copy is V09.3-0

Rich

I really like this software..but it goes nuts from time to time...

It seems impossible to reach it owner for help...

I just searched and it seems this is the newest version I can find.

Rich

Here is what I am seeing:

First the main display:

Next the first page..note the three reports marked by red bar:

Jedimark, the maker of sleepyhead, has in the past 24 hours posted that he has been unwell.

You are lucky I have bitten my tongue in reply to your post, your tone is rude.

Rude??

I wake up and take a reading...and it is gone nuts again...

I depend on knowing what is happening with my sleep cycles and I get a rude awaking..my readings are crazy..and for the third time.

VERY FRUSTRATING....

Not something I wanted to see at 4 AM...it shocked me...

I was not able to see his report of being unwell..

I hope he recovers and can fix this bug..

Sorry.

Rich

Rich,

One thing I was considering at some point is to do a completely clean reinstall which means also deleting all registry entries. Have you thought of trying that?

Another possibility is revert back to the previous versions although I am not sure the easiest way to do that is. Perhaps a reinstall?

Rich,

Forgot to mention if you do a clean uninstall, make a backup copy. Also if you need to save particular days, make sure you do that.

This area is known to be buggy and not just with your machine.

If your daily detailed graphs are correct (confirm with Encore software) then it really isn't that big of a deal.
ASV compatibility with SleepyHead is real iffy....the machines were released long after SleepyHead first Beta version was released and Mark simply didn't have the time to devote to adding and perfecting compatibility.

It's Beta software and barely Beta at that. Still an infant. Life got in the way of Mark polishing it up. Crap happens.

To everyone in general...not just OP here:

It's free software...we didn't pay for it unless someone made a donation.
How many people using it have actually made a donation????

Yet people seem to expect perfection and complain when they see a bug in the software. Totally blows my mind how people react to things.

It's Beta software and bugs are part of Beta software. If someone can't handle overlooking a few bugs...use either Encore or ResScan software. Those companies have a whole department for software development and not just one person which is what SleepyHead has.

Well I am dead in the water…

I have uninstalled it three times..it keeps finding the old incorrect data.

I tried deleting the folder found the old data again..

I moved the folder off the hard drive to a SD Card and removed it before reinstalling and again it found the old data..so where does sleepyhead keep its data files?? AS they are NOT in its folder…

I really love this and need it so please someone help…

Rich

PS Pugsy, I am very grateful for this software, and understand it is a bata...and up until now had NOT seen any contact with its writer, at one point it seemed to me he had just walked away...

Now that he is in touch at lease I feel he might see the problem and help or even be able to fix it...

BECAUSE the other software made by all those companies which have a whole department for software development and not just one person which is what SleepyHead has, has not done the great job Mark has.

Late time I tried to report this problem and I found NO path to make a report...

So when it went off the tracks again I freaked out...reread that again I FREAKED OUT..

I felt NO HOPE, I felt totally frustrated...

The one tool that had made my recover and ongoing recovery was dead..and I had no hope of it being fixed....Based on what had happened last time...

You have seen the battle I have had with a quad bypass and apneas, I am just starting to get back on track myself after 7 months and this IS THE TOOL that helps make this possible.

I make models and the only good feedback is complaints, you cannot know what is wrong without a complaint.

I believe that SleepyHead is open source. Rather than complaining about software that has been generously provided to you for free, you might consider:

1: Contributing a fix to the codebase itself http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/s ... rom_source, or
2: Trying to find a way to work-around the problem and posting any solution you come up with for others to see, or
3: Filing a detailed bug report. How-to: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html

Rich,
I understand your frustrations...believe me I do but until Mark is able to get to the point where he can sort out 950/960 issues there's not much we can do. SH won't work at all with the 960. Some lucky 950 users get total data...some don't get any at all...some like you get it hit or miss.
Until Mark is physically and mentally able to work on those issues...not much we can do.
He already knows that compatibility with those machines are a known problem.
You aren't the first by any means to report having issues.
When he is ready and able to work on those issues...he will let us know and then work from there. It's not going to be easy. Apparently the file structures or contents even within the 950s are not consistent. That's why some people get data just fine...others can't get a damn thing and others like yourself find it hit or miss.
For the 960 users..they are in a worse situation. I can't even find an Encore version that works with their machines. There's one out there but I haven't been able to get my grubby little paws on it.

In the mean time...use Encore...I sent you a PM with information on how to get it.

Again: a complaint is the only way anyone will ever know there is a problem...

as for:

1. IF I was any kind of code writer do you think I would be a staving model maker??

2. I am trying..but as I only had this problem once before and THAT work around no longer works....(Creating a new profile)

3. I did the best report I can..here is what it is doing..even with screen captures and I can provide more.. and again if I knew what was happening I would be a programmer myself...

Not helping.

You seem to know more on what is happening so tell me.

Rich

Thanks..

As I said with a PM: Encore STINKS...

If there is anything I can do to help like send copies of my SD Card to him etc I will try and help.

Mean while I hope someone has a work around or can at lease tell me how to completely remove all files so I might get a clean new install? (might work)

OR is it the machine's report that went off the tracks??

Rich

When doing an uninstall there is the main SLeepyHead App folder in MyDocuments that is untouched by the uninstall procedure.
Did you know about it?
That folder needs to be removed also to get a total removal of all SH stuff.
That's where all the data is stored.
Without its removal any new SH versions will look into that folder first and find the old stuff.

So that is where it is...

I will move it onto a large SD Card to remove it but save it at the same time.

Thanks that may help.

I will now try it.

Darn NOW it will not import any data from the SD Card even tho it is there...sleepyhead saids there is no data...

Now it is completely dead...

Rich

OK restoring the old database and it now is working as it was...and still off the tracks...
