New person question(s)

Post by mrmeato » Sun Jul 14, 2013 6:07 am

Guys

I did search a little on this topic didn't find too much but maybe that's my inability to search correctly. I've had the S9 about a month, and it's made a (big) difference. Being an inquisitive person I have
a couple of questions. As a single guy I'd like to know if the shaking down the house snoring I used to put ex-girlfriends and housemates has decreased at all. I don't know if it's possible via using Sleepyhead or something? I've seen some apps on the Iphone etc (but being an old school blackberry user) I can't find one for my phone. Does such a thing exist?

Secondly, when I drink any alcohol I find that when using the mask magically I wake up at some point during the night having unlatched the mask (on both sides), taken the mask off and my night is somewhat interrupted. I've been looking at the tightness of it before (first it was too loose now a bit too tight) so am trying to get it just right. I don't even remember taking it off, and I'm not necessarily subject to having drunk to excess (though semi-youthful enthusiasm has been known to get the better of me). I have experienced lately that it feels a bit harder to breath through my nose. I don't feel claustrophobic (I am a SCUBA diver so fundamentally it's not that different). Would adjusting the pressure help? I think that it's a combination of the tightness and the pressure. But I am not sure. Any advice to any of the above would be a great help.

Sorry for the newbie question but from what I see this isn't a forum for flaming as with most of the da internetz.

Thanks

What mask are you using? Sounds like a full face mask maybe since you mention latches. Be more specific about mask model and those people who use that mask can offer ideas.
I will say that for a lot of people pressure across the nose bridge area will definitely increase the chance of congestion.
That's one of the reason I use nasal pillows. Any pressure from the outside across the bridge of my nose causes congestion that is really bad....

Snores....there's a graph for snores in SleepyHead. Your machine does record snores...doesn't make it easy to evaluate but generally if the snore line graph is not very exciting then you likely aren't snoring horribly.

Did you spot the snore graph? If you can post an image of your detailed report and include that snore graph we can tell you if it is very exciting or not.
Turn off the AHI graph in the preferences/graphs tab...so that snores can be brought up into view.

Interesting post.

The topic of removing a mask without one's knowledge is one with many answers and possiblities. Pages and pages have been written about it on this blog.

If using the data in your machine doesn't pan out, I found a link to a audio activated USB camera that looks like it might do the trick. It would answer your question about the snoring and might provide insight as to why your mask is coming off when you drink.

Good luck.

I would also cut way back on alcohol anywhere after supper or even earlier. It can make quite a difference to your therapy, OSA itself and your results.
