Help with info on Devilbiss Intellipap DV54D and Hybernite

Post by Backdoctor » Fri Jul 12, 2013 2:02 pm

My resmed M AutoPap's humidifier died recently. as it is from 2006 I figure it's new Cpap time.

I was looking at DeVilbiss IntelliPAP® Auto CPAP Machine vs Respironics Auto PR System One 60 Series

With the Respironics I can get heated humidifier and tubing. The DeVilbiss only had heated humidifier. At times it causes condensation in the tubing even on a low setting and with the fleece cover on the tubing.

The DeVilbiss has a 5 yr warranty, the Respironics only 2 years

Does anyone have experience with either of these units?

Also, anyone using the Plastiflex Healthcare Hybernite Rainout Control System?

All input welcomed..

Thanks,

Harris

I have a 60 series PR S1 machine with the heated hose. Awesome nice feature. Great machine also.

I have used the Hybernite 2300 heated hose with my 50 series machine which of course doesn't have a heated hose.
It does exactly what it is supposed to do. My preference is for maximum humidity and a cold bedroom and that's a recipe for condensation for sure. The Padacheek fleece hose cozy does a good job preventing the rain out in the hose but I would still sometimes get condensation in my nasal pillows due to the lowering of the temperature in the hose by the time it gets to the nasal pillows and the added moisture in my own exhaled breath.
The down side to the fleece hose cozy is the added weight and it isn't exactly cheap either though it is very well made I couldn't make it for that. Not a horrible down side but still a down side.
The Hybernite is light and flexible and no hose cozy is required...in fact they specifically say don't use one because it will get too warm and they are right because I just had to try it to see.

I have never used a Devilbiss machine. I am sure it is a great machine but the data that it gathers is not as comprehensive IMHO as the data that the PR S1 gathers and since I kinda like all the data I can get...my preference would be the PR S1 Auto 60 series if it were me.
Besides..to get the data that the Devilbiss does gather there is an added module that is needed to be purchased...so that brings the cost up a bit and add the Hybernite cost in.....and you pretty much have the same $ money in the Devilbiss as the 560 will cost.
I am not sure that the 5 year vs 2 year warranty would make up for the less comprehensive data (since I do value it) with all other costs being equal. It's a small thing and may not matter to you. You may not even care for anything more than the Smart Code data available from the machine LCD so you may not even want the module so you can use a SD card to gather data.

They Hybernite is strictly on/off. No way to adjust the temperature though to be honest I didn't have a need to but thought I would mention it. What I like about the 60 series heated hose is that in the summer I can turn down the temp and still maintain my preferred humidity level since temperature in the hose and the amount of humidity delivered are separate settings. In the winter I can turn the temp back up again so that I don't get a cold nose from the cold bedroom air. In my case the hose cozy did a great job preventing rain out in the hose but my nose was still cold.

I got my Hybernite hose before the 60 series came out with their heated hose models. It does do a great job though.

I have both machines. I prefer the Intellipap's flex settings over those on the PRS1, and the smaller footprint is nice. I do, though, prefer my PRS1's heated hose over unheated hoses. By way of firmware, the default scoring parameters on the DeVilbiss cause it to drastically overscore hypopneas in my sleep (determination is by comparison to PRS1 AHI and sleep lab AHI at the same pressure). This would cause the pressure to runaway when on auto. However, the parameters in question can be tweaked (I just haven't gotten around to it). If you ignore the nights with runaway pressure, I do prefer how I felt after my nights with the Intellipap on auto versus the PRS1 on auto.
