Turning off the light on a S9

Post by KenH » Mon Jul 08, 2013 5:47 am

I go to bed way after my wife and get up way before. I dont need the light to come on when it turns on or off. Is there a way to shut it off? Thanks Ken

How about trimming a couple pieces of tape to cover the lighting? if you really want it to look professional you could remove the button, apply plastidip to it, and replace it. Either approach could be undone if needed later.

I've been through the entire menu system and never noticed a way to control the light via settings.

This used to be a problem for home theater equipment, but now many companies realize lights should be optional in dark places.

I don't know about your S9, but the light on mine is not bright enough to disturb anyone.

Cut a piece of card board that leave holes for the button, this helps alots.

LOL!!!

Mine is so bright you could land a 747 in my bedroom...I put a towel over mine at bedtime and I still have enough light coming through to read a book. It is a shame there is not a way to dim it.

Do you mean it stays on? My lights only come on for a few seconds when I turn it on or off.

I will check in the clinician's menu....

The whole box lights up like a christmas tree: the variously colored tank lights, the green power light, and then of course the LCD panel. As soon as you turn off the machine in the morning, if the room is dark, you can now see everything in the bedroom by the ambient light of the S9. Like Gparr, I put a half-folded dark-colored terry face-cloth over the top of the machine - not enough to cover anything but the lights.

No - there is no way to turn off the light of the S9. Sorry. But, a dark terry cloth is dense enough that almost no light slips through. I press the off button without even seeing the bright lights unless I need them.

But do your lights stay on? My LCD screen and humidifier (orange light) light up for a few seconds, not enough to warrant covering them.

When I turn it off to go to the bathroom it stays in the entire time...once I hit the on button it nay remains on for about 30 seconds.

But...white it's on...it iso bright!!!

I wish mine was that bright. It would be easier to find my way to the BR.

I think it's very thoughtful of you to think of your wife. It's true the lights only stay on a short time, but once it wakes your partner up, that's no consolation! I hate the lights on my System One. My solution was black electrical tape over all the lighted parts.

Make sure the towel doesn't accidentally cover the area where the air enters the machine (where the filter is). It may restrict the air into the unit. If you need to cover the screen, I would cover it with a cutout piece of card board.

Like Gparr, I find the panel display fairly bright, even if it remains on only for 30 seconds. We surround ourselves with a constellation of gadgets that have tiny bright LED's. I've taped over all of those too, where appropriate, in the bedroom. This nod to sleep hygiene seems to help reduce light as a wake trigger.

The light on my S9 is hardly noticeable (to me). That may be because I'm comparing it to the F&P ICON I started with. Whenever I turned it on or off during the night it's screen went to full power for several minutes, providing enough light to illuminate a runway for a landing 747.
