oracal, oral mask!

Post by jean19540_0 » Mon Jan 17, 2005 3:05 pm

back again, on my previous post i said i'd been back with my mask today, because of the bloody nose & face. he changed the inner mask for a differant size, and i have to admit, it does feel better (when i had a nap this pm,)
the technition showed me an orakl oral mask, with which i had a try. my cheecks felt very puffed out,
i kept blocking it, because my mouth was too dry. i was told this may be a possibility if i have more problems with the full face mask, although i would be given a different cpap with a heated humidifer, which would solve the dry mouth problem, so we'll have to see how it goes
i would be very interested to hear anybodys views on the orakl oral l jean

oral mask

Jean I also have the heated humidified mask.I have been using my cpap for a year now. I find it has taken a while to ajust to the cpap but I have noticed a difference for the first night. It sure takes a lot to get use to the cpap method but in the long run it is well worth the effort. If you were unable to function as I was this product is a god send. Jean is the oralk oral the mask that afixes itself to the upper teeth off the mouth. I was just looking at that metod but am thinking of staying with my full face mask?

bilbo60, no the Oracle (by Fisher and Paykel) is not the mask you're thinking of that is held in place by the upper teeth - a device I'd never use - we can have enough teeth trouble without something like that, even if it could hold in place without leaking - doubtful. The Oracle, on the other hand, is held in place mainly by two flaps - one flap inside the mouth between lips and gums, the outer flap across the front of the lips. A bit like wearing a scuba mouthpiece. Sounds good in theory but few find it comfortable. Most have to wear nose plugs with the Oracle to prevent nose-snort air leaks which are just about guaranteed to wake you up It's also very drying to the mouth to have that much air coming in at such close range, so heated humidification (turned up as high as it will go) is a must with the Oracle. I have an Oracle, but I rarely use it.

I've got an oracle- I don't like it - my sinuses would run down the back of my throat and I couldn't breath through my nose to clear it with the nose plugs. this would cause me to wake up in a slight panic with that drowning choking feeling
