I CRIED WITH JOY WHEN MY SLEEP SPECIALIST SAID I HAVE SLEEP

Post by risingroad » Sat Jun 22, 2013 1:40 pm

Tears are rolling down my face as I just now finished reading this site and all the encouragement from hose-heads. Thank you so much ... I feel so fortunate to have just stumbled on this site.

I had a home study which was much cheaper than a sleep center mid-May. It kept me up .... well, at least I thought so. I had to wait a month before going to my sleep specialist which put me on pins and needles. I desparately wanted sleep apnea because I couldn't imagine continuing feeling this way if I didn't. I was actually catching myself not breathing, throat locked, nightmares of underwater. Finally, the day came... and my sleep specialist said I slept 8 hours and enough for it to come up with 224 times a night I stopped breathing and up to 50 seconds! I cried I was so relieved. I am going in July 19, 2013 for a night at the center to calibrate my breathing requirements and mask fitting.

I am a musician and artist (work at a school district ESD) who has locked so much of myself in myself with frustration and though the passion is there my expression goes unexpressed. I might as well be dead. And I am normally a happy person.

I can't WAIT to get my machine because NO discomfort can possibly be as bad as this decades long nightmare of no life.

Yes, I am very glad I am a sleep apnea sufferer at no fault of my own (that I know of) because I get to feel what it feels like to be reborn into a new life.

Thank you for your words that help me get over the fear that I won't marry well with my machine.

Welcome to the forum.
I was also relieved to find out what was ailing me and after much reading and research found out the therapy was pretty simple.
"Attitude" is a huge part of making this therapy work. I have confidence that you will be successful with yours.

Congrats, I know how you feel. I too cried the first morning that I awoke without a migraine or a two hour fog! My bet is that you will take to the mask and machine like a duck to water. My sleep tech told me that those of us with severe OSA are the most compliant, the relief for us is so dramatic that we will never give up once we feel so much better. if you have an option in the choice of machine, go with Resmed (IMHO) very easy to adapt to. I'm not wishing you good luck, because I know you will do fine!!! Zen

Welcome and congratulations.

Unfortunately, you need to be very careful to be sure you don't get screwed in the process. Read the links in my signature line to figure out how to get a good CPAP machine and other things.

Don't trust the people who deliver CPAP machines. You need to know enough to not get screwed with the wrong machine.
