ResScan 4.3 Install Problem

Post by jdm2857 » Fri May 31, 2013 10:42 pm

I have ResScan 4.2 installed on my Win7 laptop and am trying to upgrade to 4.3.

The install process runs as usual all the way to the Wizard's final install screen. After I click
install, the following message box appears:

Image

I've done nothing to interrupt the Wizard. Paid no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Any thoughts?

Did you run the install file with administrator permissions?

Right click on the install file and choose "Run as Administrator", Its a windows Vista/7 security thing.

BTW ... A PM with version 4.3 link would be appreciated

Hmmm.
Saw you had a problem so I decided to install 4.3 and it just now finished and had no problems.
My laptop has Win 7 Home Premium.
Installed right over 4.2 just like the prior versions have done. Still slow to open and all that usual stuff but it has my old data in it.

Maybe a glitch in the downloaded setup files. Anytime I ever had problems installing something that should in theory install without issues and it failed after a couple of attempts I normally would trash the first downloaded setup files and go get a fresh download and try with new. That's all I know to offer to try. If it fails right at the end of the install more than twice....go get fresh files and try again.

I did use the run as administrator command line for the install but unsure if it is really needed but that is just old habit of mine to try to always do that.

Yes, I've been using ResScan 4.3 (got it from the OP) for a few days now, no problems. One thought is that I sure wish that it was general practice to give md5sum's for all downloads, so that you could validate downloads before wasting time with them. Since that isn't the case, here's the md5sum for the setup.exe file that I installed that should be the same as yours:

4061ACBD4F3328EA6D8881A3BA2E0E1E 31302_ResScan_4.3.exe

I hope that helps you.

And yes, make sure that you "run as administrator" when you run the setup.exe file listed above.

If you have a problem, you should be able to use Windows system restore to get your system back to what it was before you installed...just because it says that your system wasn't modified when the install failed doesn't mean that it's true *smile*.

I started the install using "run as administrator". The MD5sum matches.

So I used Microsoft's highly-detailed documentation and after following the
troubleshooting flowcharts I rebooted and tried the install again.

It worked.

Just like Dogbert says, if things aren't working right, reboot *smile*.

In the User Control Panel > Board Preferences, I think you have private messages disabled.
Turn them on, and then make another request.

I upgraded to 4.3 with no problem but the layout is now different, Device settings are on separate page and a few other things look different but not better. I can live with it but what are the benefits of upgrading to the latest version? I don't see anything added or improved. If I want to go back to the old version how can I do that?

I'm really not sure what the differences are. ResMed does not publish release notes.

I've never used the device settings screen. Sometimes the changes are bug fixes and speed enhancements as well
as compatibility with new equipment.

If you want to go back, you'll need to uninstall ResScan (Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program), and then install v4.2.

But first you should backup you data files in c:\users\public\public documents\resmed\resscan3\patients. You'll see a
folder for each patient that you created. If your data is gone after the uninstall/reinstall, you can copy your patient files
to the same location you got them from.

But I must confess that as I have never done this, I am not positive about this procedure. I'm also not sure that
v4.3 patient files are backwards compatible with v4.2. Please wait until (if?) others chime in.

You're probably better off just living with 4.3

Thanks Jeff but since it's all Greek to me I'll take your last suggestion and just live with 4.3! BTW, I never used the Device screen on the older software either but it just appeared on this last upgrade?
