A Lament

We who are left, how shall we look again
Happily on the sun or feel the rain
Without remembering how they who went
Ungrudgingly and spent
Their lives for us loved, too, the sun and rain?

A bird among the rain-wet lilac sings–
But we, how shall we turn to little things
And listen to the birds and winds and streams
Made holy by their dreams,
Nor feel the heart-break in the heart of things?

–Wilfred Wilson Gibson, 1918

Today is about remembering the hero's that keep us safe so we can talk about anything we want and express our thoughts on forums like this. And that is only the tip of the iceberg of the benefits they provide us.

It is unfortunate that so many of those hero's died in their service to our country.

To those that are still alive - Thank You.

To the families of those who died - Thank You and you are remembered in our thoughts and prayers.

Everybody should visit the WW1 veteran's memorial in Kansas City.
The glass floor is awesome--as well as the view below.

Thank-you, Mollete, for a post reminding us of the importance of remembering our fallen in wartime. Paraphrasing Churchill, so many of us owe so much to the fallen and their survivors, and it's so important to preserve this day to honor and remember.

(For our non-U.S. members on this fine forum, thanks for sparing us a moment on this.)
