S9 advise please ?

Post by roadkingrick » Sun May 26, 2013 12:41 pm

Two weeks now with S9 bipap, the usage display seems stuck on (24hrs) ? it started out giving me the correct usage for the previous nights and now it just seems locked on to 24 hrs? is there a reset ? Its the icon in the oval above the mask fit smiley face ? Also this machine makes a wheezing noise on my exhale? I talked to provider and they said to give it a few weeks and see if it quiets but it has not? Is this normal for S9? any help is welcome, I learn more here then an provider I've called for help. thanks

The wheezing noise on exhale has been reported by many users. It seems to be common. I have the noise and I contacted Resmed. They claimed that it was normal to encounter the noise.

If you are having a data anomaly the best thing to do is a hard reset: unplug the machine from the electricity, wait a moment and then plug it back in.

You might try rinsing out your filter on the back of the machine. It's in a little holder on the left hand side. Just pull it out and rinse it in some cool water. Don't scrub it, jsut give a good rinse and then pat dry. Do this in the morning and let it air dry. It might help with the noise, it helps with mine. Good luck.

Yes, while it is normal to encounter it (my cpap has the same annoying noise), I don't agree that it is a normal or useful noise *smile*. I'd say that ResMed has found an interesting response to avoid acknowledging that it's a problem. Kind of like if a lot of people ran into the same software bug, then it would be normal, not a bug? Cute way to dodge having to fix problems.

thanks guys, I tried the hard restart, no luck. The noise is definitely irritating, not so much for me as I wear ear plugs but for my wife. I tried rinsing filter but no luck there, this has made this noise since day one, will take it back to provider see what they do with it.

probably not much, any other ideas on how to get the usage meter to work again ?

Any more on the noise issue? I have a new machine with the same issue.

So resmed considers this normal on their cpap and bipap machines?

roadkingrick, jonwink and needhelp2,

We don't even know which S9 you are talking about.

Could you please fill out your profiles so your machine and mask data will show up in each of your posts?

Thanks.

Regards, Nate

Sorry, I don't have that exact machine. I have a PR System One REMstar 60 Series Plus with a Swift FX nasal pillow mask. The machine makes a higher pitched "whine" on exhale that is making it hard to sleep. I just got the machine last week - I'm new to all this - and I was wondering if that was normal or if not what recourse do I have with the supplier.

Hello Roadkingrick,

The whistling sound from the S9 is definitely unique to that piece of equipment depending on the user. For the most part, ResMed machines are perfectly quiet however, there are some people who hear the slight "wheezing noise" you describe no matter what you do.

You have two options if it keeps you or your bed partner awake. An insulated box to contain the noise or another machine. I know it sounds drastic, but I've found no solution to the ResMed S9 my machine is whistling on exhale problem.

Hope that helps.

Here's an audio comparison I made of the S9 autoset when it first came out.
http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/s9/audio-comparison/
You may have to turn up the sound on the S9 example to hear it clearly. If this is what you're hearing, it is expected for the S9. If what you're hearing is very different or extremely loud, then it's not expected, and you should probably take the machine in.
