S9 VPAP auto and the path to patient compliance

Post by hawaiimom » Sat May 25, 2013 11:39 am

Aloha all,
What an adventure this is turning into! After an ok start first night, second night something seemed very different with machine. Being so new to this, I was not quite sure how to trouble shoot and getting up to the computer to research was impractical for the rest of the household. So, I decided to wait till light of day and contact my DME guy. Laid in bed belittling myself for being a big baby and that it was all in my head and after more than an hour of that put the mask on at about 11. Slept fitfully after that until about 3 am, woke with sore chest muscles and a tummy very full of air. Took the mask off and slept fitfully again for another couple of hours. Sent a text to DME friend at 6 am and began to investigate. Turned off ramp and noted that pressures were at ipap 14 and epap 10.....titration was done at ipap 8, epap 4

He got right back to me and went step by step through changing settings to straight bilevel instead of auto at the 8/4 settings. THAT SPELLED RELIEF Last night, on mask 7.4 hours, good mask fit, AHI 0.6. I can do that every night. He is going to go through download next week and get my laptop set up to view data, till then, I am happy that my machine is no longer possessed.

Lessons learned though, I can breathe out against a higher pressure.

Have a great memorial day weekend all, stay safe. Our family is in Graduation Celebration mode, last chick graduated last night!
