I want to thank both of you as you both gave me info on the tap pap. During my titration study, I tried the nose pillows, but the tech had the wrong size and didn't put them to my nose right (more on that later). So, I used the wisp mask, but I HATED the head straps which, I found out when my therapist came to my home, the sleep study tech had wayy too tight on me.
Anyway, I had my therapist bring the tap pap as well as the mask, the wisp, the tech at the sleep study recommended. At my home, the therapist adjusted the wisp mask on me and it was so much nicer than the one at the titration study. Then, we tried the tap pap nasal pillows. Again, the fit was soo different. I used the small pillows, not large and they weren't shoved in my nose.
My therapist, bless her soul, left both masks with me so I could use both until I decided what I wanted. I used the tap pap last night and slept wonderfully!
So, To RogerSC: Thanks for providing the mask name so I could check it out
To Pugsy: Thanks for providing such a great review of the tap pap. It was great to see what 'real' people experienced!
So, I felt better all day today and, as much as I didn't want to do the cpap because of the experience I had at the sleep study, I was successful because of the two of you!
THANKS!!!! to all of you who replied to my (sometimes annoying and repetitive) posts as I figured out this disease! Wish I had done this years ago Such a change in my attitude from the last sleep study and my home visit with my therapist
Pugsy and RogerSC - 1st night with cpap :)
Re: Pugsy and RogerSC - 1st night with cpap :)
Glad the Tap Pap worked out well for you...it gets easier and better.
Yesterday morning I woke up much earlier than usual as dawn was just breaking and I didn't really want to get up just yet so I lay there for a while and breathing with the machine and then it dawned on me. I didn't feel like I was wearing a mask or using a machine. It felt just like normal daytime breathing. I had zero sensation of having the mouth guard attached to my teeth.
No sensation at all that pointed to anything being attached to me in any fashion. I had a little chuckle to myself about how nice it was and turned over and snuggled up with the new kitty and went back to sleep.
It was really amazing...not to feel anything at all other than just breathing normally.
I actually briefly had to feel the mask in place to confirm that it was still where it was supposed to be...I didn't even feel the mouth guard at all.
Did that idiot tech at the sleep lab actually try to cram the nasal pillows into the nostrils? You know you wouldn't be the first to report that happening and it gives nasal pillows a really bad reputation that is totally undeserved.

3rdnight with cpap and a question
@ pugsy:
Yes. Large pillows jammed in my nose. The therapist chose the small ones for my nose. That's a big difference there and they weren't IN my nose! The wisp mask she put on me was so tight It was horrible. I actually took pillow cases off and tried to put them between my skin and the straps to ease that mess. Miserable!
Now, having been fit correctly, it's fine!
QUESTION:
I had a lot of blood in my nose this am. Increase the humidifier setting?

That's what I would do along with frequent sprays with something like Simply Saline to rehydrate the nasal mucosa.docjl wrote:I had a lot of blood in my nose this am. Increase the humidifier setting?
Even now I use some first thing every morning and give nose a good spray at bedtime.
Maybe even add some Ayr gel inside the nose. Gently....
Capillaries in the nose need to be able to heal without the scab tearing off because every time it gets torn off it bleeds again.
If it is really bad then it made need cauterization.

The subject title of this thread makes it sound like Pugsy and RogerSC spent their first night together.
