Residual Morning Sleepiness

Post by DoriC » Tue May 21, 2013 5:02 pm

I think I have Mike's therapy dialed in with AHI's in the 2-3 range except that even though he sleeps about 9 unexciting hours with one bathroom wakeup, he always needs an hour nap right after breakfast. He's OK for the rest of the day so I'm not too concerned but wondering if there's something that may be going on that causes this sleepiness.

Can't provide any guidance, but I can stay that most days I wake up/get up 2-3 times over an hour and a half. If I don't "phase in" waking up, I won't make it past lunchtime. So is be interested in hearing what everyone else says.
Life before my CPAP was really no life at all!

Dori -- Sensitivity to blood sugar going up after "fasting" all night?
Is this a new development?

DoriC,

Like kaiasgram I thought about blood sugar first... does Mike eat sugary things like fruit juice and skim milk for breakfast that might provoke a big insulin response?

To me... I wouldn't worry about it. I go thru bouts of sleepiness (daytime naps) and getting up "more than often" at night for restroom breaks. I don't worry about it until it's a long-lasting pattern. More often than not, as soon as I start thinking that this is starting to become a pattern... it stops as soon as it started. I have often disagreed with folks here on the naps. As longs as they are not real long and start messing with your sleep at night... I think they are a gift from God. A nice dose refreshes me and is a wonderful part of getting old.

An 8oz glass of oj, a bit of skim in his coffee. No problem with sugar that I know of but will mention to Dr. in June.

ever since I started CPAP, I get about 7 hours of sleep...10PM bedtime.... I'm up at 4:50 with the alarm on weekdays to get to work.

On weekends, I'm lucky if I sleep past 5:30..... occasionally, I'll get up at 4:30- 5AM.... read the newspaper, have some coffee, watch some TV and around 7AM, I"ll go back to bed for 1-2 hours...

I like Sherrif's thought process!!
