Mask for stomach sleeper question

Post by Scott in MD » Tue Apr 16, 2013 3:52 am

Hi everyone.
I've been lurking and learning, but have an issue I hope someone else has faced.....and figured out !
I have a RES-Med machine and use nasal pillows with very few issues. I am also a stomach sleeper. I generally only get sick a couple times a year, which brings me to my question. What type of mask should I be looking at for when I am sick and my sinuses are clogged? Any chance I'll be able to pull of stomach sleeping with this type of mask?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi Scott,

Welcome!

This thread describing the "Falcon Sleeping Position" might be helpful. As an FYI, even though it is demonstrated without using a pillow, someone else in another thread used one. So obviously, adjust it to suit your needs.

And many people have a spare full face mask for those times so they can breathe through their mouths when congested but not lose the Cpap air that way.

Thanks 49 and Julie.

I looked over the thread on the Falcon position. That's pretty close to how I sleep now, well, with the exception that it didn't show the leg kicking the wife all night (muhahaha)

I think I'll be getting a mask tonight on the way home.

Thanks again !!

I keep a bottle of Afrin nasal spray in the drawer of the night stand. I am a belly sleeper that uses nasal pillows. When I get clogged up I use the Afrin.

Scott,

I found a kind of 'off the wall' treatment for nasal stuffiness. My hubby started using CPAP in Dec 2012 & when he had a cold he wanted Vicks Vapor Rub instead of my Aromatherapy that I use when congested. Well, he liked that so well, we got a bottle of Vicks for use in the vaporizer units (the kind you put in a kids room when they are little & have colds). The stuff is definitely cheap & works for him just like the aromatherapy you can buy on cpap.com.

I still prefer the aromatherapy for nightly use, but tried his 'Vicks' for a cold & it works wonders. For use you just put some on a cotton ball, or small scrap of felt & put it behind your machine, at the place where the air enters your machine & the scent comes thru your mask. For both of us it meant better nasal breathing without having to switch masks.

Hope this helps you,
Jen
