Cpap repair?

Post by Beachbound » Fri Apr 05, 2013 10:16 am

I currently use the Remstar pro M series. It was accidently knocked off the table it was on and now it will not work. I can't simply have it replaced because I no longer have insurance. I was wondering if there are shops out there that will repair a cpap machine for an individual. Thank you for any information. It's been a rough night.

This place above is the only one that I know of but I am sure there are likely others.
You could probably buy a replacement M series machine from your local craigslist for less money than it would take to fix it.
Depends on what is broken...and of course there are the $ charged for diagnostic purposes to just see if it can be repaired.

I would be shopping local craigslist...otherwise you are going to have a wait and no machine at all.
Where are you located?
Forum member mcdover usually has some gently used machines for very reasonable prices.

M series machines were discontinued late 2009...no longer in warranty for sure.

Thank you so much for all the quick replies. I'm in a bit of a bind as things have gotten tighter financially recently. I'm located in the central FL area. I'm willing to travel to Orlando, Tampa or anywhere in between.

I think that acbio outfit is in Florida, so that might work for you.

The machine in the first link even comes with a new full face quattro mask. Don't know what size though.

Of the 2 that Cosmo found..this one above is the new technology PR S1 APAP machine model 550. A full data machine using the SD card for data storage. Software easy to use and find. Offers both CFlex and AFlex exhale relief. It offers both cpap mode (like your Pro) and apap mode.
Unfortunately it appears to have 2/28/13 posting date...it may not still be available.

The first one with the mask included is the M series technology basic model that is two steps below the Pro machine that you have.
Your Pro offers full data...the Remstar Plus does not. It also does not offer any CFlex exhale relief that your Pro offers.

Above offered for informational purposes only...just so you know what the differences are in case you didn't.
The PR System One machines are new technology and are what the M series were replaced by.
Be careful...there are PR System One machines like the Remstar Plus...no data and no exhale relief.
In general..model numbers (on the bottom of the machines) 450 and above...full data and have the exhale relief.

If you have any electrical knowledge (I taught myself electrical stuff 101 with a book from Lowes) you can remove the casing, see if anything is broken (such as plastic), run the wires carefully to see if you have something that has come disconnected. I would first check the wiring harness, it may have come unplugged, this could be an easy fix, just replug it in, making sure the colored wiring lines up ie; red wire with red, etc.

If you aren't very handy, you may not want to attempt this. I am a fix-it gal, my hubby can change a light bulb and that's about it. I've rewired the dishwasher, ceiling fan, furnace wiring harness, etc, etc. I have taken apart my M series so many times I can't cound & mine had numerous cord shortages. I stripped the outside cord casing & rewired & closed with electrical tape. If this sounds scary to you, PLEASE DON'T ATTEMPT IT.

I don't want my suggestion to lead you into serious trouble. But if you are fairly handy, it could be the jolt of the fall shook the wiring harness out of place & that's an easy fix if carefully done by someone who is confident with their 'fix-it' skills.

Good luck,
Jen

This one claims to be a new 560 w/humidifier in Ocala/Belleview for $250...

It's a good deal if it really is new and a 560.
