SleepyHead version update fail

Post by SnoringinDXB » Tue Mar 26, 2013 11:09 am

I have 0.9.1 and the auto update function tries to update to 0.9.2-1, but each time it fails.

Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

Thanks!

I have not, but I have two suggestions:
1) Try running sleepyhead as admin. This assumes you have vista or later (and obviously that you're using Windows). Right-click on the sleepyhead icon and select Run As Admin.
2) Probably the simplest fix is to uninstall SleepyHead and then install the latest. I am 95% sure I've done this without losing data, but unless you've changed machines, formatted your SD Card, etc, the data (except older detailed graphs) is still there.

You are new...let's fix the update problem right from the beginning to save you headaches later.

Uninstall SleepyHead.
Go back to the download folder where the setup files are located and instead of double click on it to install do a right click of the mouse and from the little menu that pops up choose "run as administrator"....and let it proceed with the install.
Then the automatic update won't fail.
The problem is with the Vista and later Windows OS security system...it won't allow the update unless SleepyHead has administrator privileges...has nothing to do with your user account having administrator privileges.
If you install Sleepyhead under the "run as administrator" umbrella any future updates will happen without a problem.
Otherwise you have to open SH manually under the "run as administrator" command line each time you might want an update.
While not difficult to do..just unnecessary work. Install the program with the blanket privilege saves work later.

Right now the latest SleepyHead Beta basic install gets you the 9.1 version.(there is no new version at this time)
There is one update so far that needs to be applied to get you to version 9.2-1.
Unless you want to do the Patch file you can stop at 9.2-1.
The Patch file is primarily for the 60 series Respironics machines but it does include a little bug fix about the double session sleep times reported by the S9 when the clock on the machine gets adjusted due to DST changes.
The Patch file thing is a manual fix though.

If you want to do the Patch file

It is still easier if you just simply install the 9.1 version with the run as administrator privileges from the start.
Final version with the Patch installed is 9.3...and likely involves a reboot of the computer though you won't be prompted for it.

Great stuff guys - the uninstall and then re-install as administrator worked like a charm. Thank you.

For anyone else reading this about the "run as administrator" thing and they aren't new and are worrying about doing the uninstall and losing prior data. SleepyHead stores all data in a folder totally separate from the SleepyHead folder and that folder is in the My Documents folder and it is left alone during an uninstall of SleepyHead. So if someone wants to reinstall SleepyHead for any reason their old data won't be harmed at all. I know this for a fact because I tried it and I had data from 5 different machines in that folder and I didn't lose a thing.

Mark was going to try to fix the little security thing so that "run as administrator" was not going to be needed but we haven't had any official automatic updates yet to test it out. It's easy enough to open SleepyHead with the right click of the mouse but what happens is with time people forget about that needed step...so installing SH under the run as administrator umbrella eliminates a possible headache later and doesn't hurt anything.

So it isn't critical but since we all know I am a lazy sot...I try to avoid as much extra work as possible. Even something so simple as an additional step in opening software.
I did find it helpful with the Patch install though...made the Patch install go smoothly.
