Mask desnotting

Post by tetragon » Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:39 am

I recently snotted up my Swift FX pillows severely enough that I had gobs of the stuff stuck between the two layers of the cones. It took a fine, soapy qtip to clean it out. At least, I think it's all cleaned out. I plan on tossing this set of pillows after the snot stops. But until then, is there an easier method of desnotting the innards than scrubbing it out with a qtip?

Don't have a good answer. I know some use full face masks, total face or oral masks at this time. If you found one you were comfortable with you could use a cork in your nose (I mean plug it).

You know, after a few minutes of gasping for air and feeling like I can't breathe on the Swift FX, the air does drill a path through the snot. The water pik may be quicker, but the water feels like burning.

I've read on here recently that you can boil nasal pillows with a little baking soda. That would most likely get them cleaned out.

My normal mask cleaning is to half-fill the bathroom sink with hot water and a squirt of liquid soap. I then vigorously swish the mask around in it. (really swish the snot out of it!! ... So to speak.)

Rinse by repeating with no soap. Place mask on a folded towel to air dry all day.

I doubt anything that drips into your mask can survive that. Good luck!

The design of my pillows protects the snot from swishing. That particular snotting involved a part of the pillows that has a long, thin, U-shaped cross-section.
