Hans Rudolph FF - First Night Report
The last FF mask on the market that I have not tried. I immediately tried it out. I really like that it goes down under my chin. And I like no forehead piece. This is "heavy duty" silicone mask. It can be sterilized in autoclave, chemically sterilized, and put in the dishwasher. Hospitals can use it on one patient, sterilize it and reuse on another. In fact, it says "Reusable" on the manual.
The important part: FIT. I bought the Petite and it fits perfectly. Doesn't cover my eyes and comfortably snug below chin. The headgear is 5-point but the low strap goes below the nap of the neck. Has a slider adjust on top. The straps themselves are thinner than usual. I'm guessing the headgear wears out before the mask. No replacement parts--buy new mask. The clips are weird. You have to fit a little round button into a keyhole and slide it into place. I can do the right side easily but struggled to find the connection on left. The quick disconnect is a real pain. You have to squeeze two tabs to release. I found it easier to just pull the connector out of the hose.
With mask on, time for most important test. Turn on Bilevel at 21/17. Leaking a lot but velcro quick adjustments stopped them. Lay on back, leaking again. Readjust straps. Turn on side. With one side of mask in my pillow, no leaking. Did some tossing and turning and see if it moved or stayed. Stayed in place without further leaks. Took a two-hour nap. I did have strap marks on my face.
I'm not sure this is my everynighter but at least I have a FF mask to use when I'm sick and can't breathe through nose. Until I've worn it for a few nights, I won't know. It's kind of a toss-up. With my Activa LT I have to wear RUBY chinstrap to stop mouth breathing (medieval torture device) so they both feel about the same.
Sure wish I could use a hybrid but my little pug nose has deviated septum with very small nostrils and it runs constantly during the day leaving cracks and sores just inside along the septum. I can imagine anything in my nose would be painful.

Re: Hans Rudolph FF arrived today
i have been looking at this one closely as a possible replacement for my quattro, but there is no dealer locally to try it out.
one thing i read about it was that the seal is built in and not replaceable. id like to see what kind of usage folks get out of it as a daily mask.
the headgear looks very good.

Re: Hans Rudolph FF arrived today
I would advise you to look very, very closely before spending the money.

VG,
I really appreciate your review as I wondered if wearing this mask would enable me to shed the neck collar since it had under the chin support.
I can tell by your review that it would give me fits with the way the clips are handled. And to to have to replace the whole mask after 6 months just wouldn't work for me.
Good luck with it.

Re: Hans Rudolph FF arrived today
I have been using the HR V2 for several months now and I've pretty much tamed it (or it has tamed my face....). Just a few things -- the cushion is, in fact, replaceable as a separate part order. However it comes as a whole assembly -- the mask body and cushion is one part, similar to the FullLife or Amara. You can, therefore, replace it by removing if from the mask's separate external parts like the valve assembly/elbow, plastic supports/headgear sockets, etc. The mask/cushion supposedly lasts +6 months, which is longer than other standard CPAP mask cushions. This is a hospital-grade piece of gear and is built like a tank. In fact the V2 is the reusable version of Hans Rudolph's line of disposable hospital mask products. Sizing on this mask is key -- it runs much bigger than other brands, and even the manufacturer notes this -- so a medium V2 = a large Quattro, etc. I usually use a medium, so on this mask I had to get a small. The online sizing template is important to use before picking the correct size.photodork wrote:i have been looking at this one closely as a possible replacement for my quattro, but there is no dealer locally to try it out.

The mask took me some getting used to, and seemed pretty stiff for the first few weeks -- then loosened up and fit much better thereafter. It fits tight, but once its on, and once you have broken it in, leaks are few and the chin cup keeps your jaw shut quite well. Anyone with mouth breathing/jaw drop would be well served by the V2. And because of the design, it really stays put with movement and prevents leaks. Plus, no forehead support, which is nice for glasses.
Good luck!

Check your manual -- each and every part on this mask is replaceable and orderable from your DME or Devilbiss, who now markets the V2 for Hans Rudolph.

Re: Hans Rudolph FF arrived today
First night with new mask. I was surprised at my data this morning. Better than my nights with Activa LT and RUBY. The mask is a bit noisy but doesn't bother me or my snoring dog so doesn't matter. I used my Pad-A-Cheek strap padding. Greatly improved comfort. This morning I had a red line under my chin and the space where mask went was really indented but no redness. Disappeared in 5 minutes. I think a mask liner would make it really comfortable.
Here's my data:

I think this mask is a keeper for me. Only FF mask that really fits. No leakage into eyes. Love the chin support.

Re: Hans Rudolph FF arrived today
You have convinced me to try it Hyperlexis after I just woke up due to massive leak from the Quattro FX not helped by having to wear a neck collar. Hopefully, the cupped chin this mask has would enable me to do away with it.

Re: Hans Rudolph FF - First Night Report
I got the Hans Rudolph 7600 V2 about 4-5 weeks ago. There was a local representative that did the fitting. She recommended the petite size. i started using it and leaks were almost nil. BUT my nose a disaster. Pimpels and pain. I found out that the higher on the nose it was, the better it worked. So I decided to get a new mask body. This time extra small. (One size larger).
Have used this for two weeks now. The nose is mended. Leaks are non existent. I did some nights where I used the Hans Rudolph at the start and the Quattro FX at the end of the night. From a leak pont of view the Hans Rudolph wins every time. The indicated leaks are one to a dozen for a night, lasting maximum two seconds. The beauty is that they do not wake me up.
With both masks I`m certain to wash and shave my face before I put them on. Also I clean the seals of the masks before use. The Quattro FX start leaking as morning approaches. Probably because of the natural oils in the skin. The Hans Rudolph stayes leakless. The Hans Rudolph also handeles the pillow better. The straps are solid enough so they do not strech and leave the mask room for moving.
Becaus of the soft body I can wiggel my face into the mask. That helps it stay on all night.
