Name of an OTC boil n bite oral appliance for snoring???????

Post by Suddenly Worn Out » Mon Feb 25, 2013 3:32 pm

Starts with an S. I saw a dental sleep medicine guy today, he recommended an OTC "boil and bite" oral appliance for snoring, combined with nasal CPAP and see how I do with that. If that works out move to an OA with nasal CPAP (combination therapy) in order to reduce my overall pressures. I found out my tonsils are infected, which does not surprise me at all.

Got the most comprehensive dental checkup I think Ive ever had today. Got a jaw X ray and he did all these jaw tests. Told me I have been grinding my teeth a lot at some point in my past.

I could call the guy back. My memory is so bad, he named the name of the OTC snoring "boil in a bite" device. Starts with an S. I walked out and forgot the name of it. Doh.

Call the dentist's office and ask again? But a full face mask may well do the job without your needing to use the other thing. Patients turn up their pressures to try and compensate for lost therapy air going out their mouths when asleep but all it does is worsen the problem - more pressure, larger mouth opening. Have you tried a chinstrap or taping to see what effect they have?

Im already using a full face mask. Been using the Quattro for years. Im trying to go back to a nasal mask with OA for "combination therapy." The OA reduces my pressure needs and anything left gets wiped out with APAP that Ive been using for years. The bottom line is lower pressures, less pressure side effects, looser fitting masks.

He told me to try an OTC snoring boil in a bite OA first and see how that goes with nasal CPAP. He said about any of them would be OK but mentioned one that started with and S. And Ive done forgot the name of it, all I can remember is it started with an S.

Yeah I will call his office back I guess. I thought if someone threw in a few names here it would jog my memory (which is bad)

thanks,

Eric

if you remember or get the name, can you please post it and about your experience with it? the reason i ask is because my doc recommended the same thing combined with my cpap. i tried one OTC snore guard but it was too bulky and not something that could be trimmed, so i am shopping around for something a bit more slim or that i can trim or whittle down.

thanks!!

I contacted his office and he wont endorse any OTC anti-snore device...at least thru email. I should have written the name of it down because I am totally unfamiliar with these devices. All I remember is it starts with an S.

I just ordered a SnoreRX today. It is about the most expensive OTC anti-snore device you can buy but appears to be probably the best OTC OA out there in the USA. It is "medical grade," whatever that means. And is FDA cleared and Medicare approved, not that that means that much to me anymore these days. But I am going to try that combined with nasal CPAP soon. Who knows maybe it will work. Im skeptical but Im gonna try it. If it lets me get away from a full face mask, it would easily be worth the $110 I paid for it. But I dont believe it will work as good as a Quattro full face mask, that thing just shuts things down stone cold and I get good therapy with a Quattro.

I also have an appointment with my offline DME for a "new" full face mask fitting. Im thinking Quattro FX. I think I need a small size Quattro FX. The Quattro FX is my backup plan. At least I wont have pressure on my forehead and will be able to move my head back and around, unlike with the regular Quattro.
