Do you miss your blankets?

Post by quietmorning » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:34 am

I really miss my blankets being up over the lower half of my face and tucked into my neck, especially in this cold house during the winter.

I don't sleep this way any longer as I don't want to cover the vent. . .but I'm thinking of what I can do to change this.

What say you? What's changed since xPAP?

Not an authoritative answer by any means, but I doubt you'll cause harm with the vent under the blanket. Might be unacceptably loud though.

I go to sleep feeling chilly most days, but within 10 minutes warm up and end up kicking off the blanket, unless it is really cold.

I've tried it a couple of times, I always notice an immediate change - so I don't do it any longer - probably because my blankets are so thick, and there are so many of them. My vent is RIGHT where I'd put my blankets pre cpap - usually folded in and tucked around my neck. . .so I think, for me, it's just too much tight wadding to get any air through.

I just tried a soft ski cap over my headgear and Zeo, to replace my "mummy bag"
configuration, that used to keep me all warm pre-cpap.
Even with new windows, this old house is drafty, and I've been waking up with cold ears, etc.
Blankets in the head area tend to dislodge my élan. I hate that!

Hmmm. (That's the sound of gears turning. Slowly)

I wonder if you could rig something up to make a little extra room so it wasn't right up against the blanket.

So, before CPAP, your nose was below or above the blanket? I wonder if some kind of padacheek thing would make you feel similar .... something to simulate the blanket for that "strip" of head.

The cap also helps keep stuff in place--win, win!

I recently made a new mask cover for my cpap masks that are more insulated than the padacheek barrel cozy - because in the winter, they are not thick enough to really protect against the cold in this house. During the summer with the air conditioner, they are absolutely perfect (the padacheek barrel cozy).

I'm thinking about extending the mask cover. . . but it's in the think'in stages.

I'm not so sure that's exactly what I'm looking for. . .yet.

I do wear a toboggan (sp?) over my head gear and sleep cap on really really cold nights - but I don't like the feel of it on my face. . .kinda rough and itchy. . .

so sheet material. . .is probably what will work best as the underneath layer.

I think you mean a toque - a toboggan is a big sled - it would feel very rough yes.

What you want is a polar fleece cowl hat like a Buff.

I don't wear wool (irritant), so the cap is soft acrylic.
It is a single layer, soft knit. (like a child's tocque,--maybe that's what it is)

Lol. . . must be the difference in living south of the border.

this is a toque: Image

and this is a toboggan: Image

Seems to be they are very similar. Difference between a torch and a flashlight, me thinks.

Robysue used to sleep with her head totally under the covers...loved it because with the machine she could always have fresh air coming in. I am sure she made enough room so the vent wasn't blocked off though that wouldn't be so hard to do but I can see where partial face under the covers could present a problem.

Wonder if there would be some way to fix a little "cage" of some sort over the vent that would prevent the bedding from laying on the vent to block and still allow for adequate venting.

I lay on my side and pull the covers up over my head all the time. It doesn't work if you roll over on your back but other positions should be fine. You have to make a little room for the mask vent or the noise will keep you awake.

Why would you need to change the way you sleep just because you are wearing a mask?

Should add...NO CHANGE to the survey

Got it added. But it looks like adding erased all the previously posted votes. dernit.
