Nose bleed

Post by Mori55 » Wed Feb 20, 2013 5:25 pm

Hello
I'm a nooby with a problem, I started about two weeks ago with a apap machine and nasal pillows. Couldn't stand the mask. Everything seemed fine for a couple of nights until I one morning my left nostril was runny and I was sneezing all day. I turned the humidifier up and every thing seemed fine until today. Last night I noticed I could feel pressure in my sinuses and my ears felt like I was coming down from a plane. Not bad enough that I couldn't sleep. Woke up this morning and I had a slight headache but ok. About two hours later I was having breakfast , all of a sudden my right nostril started just bleeding quite abit. Any ideas ? I know my pressure is probally high. When I take the pillows off it's blowing pretty hard. I also put a little patch of tape on my lips to keep them closed.

I experienced similar problems early in my CPAP days. The inside passages of my sinuses and my septum are fairly irregular. This has resulted in my nasal pillows giving a focused blast of air on one particularly sensitive spot. The result has been almost like a wind burn giving me a very runny nose and much sneezing for 1–2 days. What helped me quite a bit was my humidification level. Once upon a time, I used to skip the humidification during the humid summer months. I've since found out that I need it year-round, and set pretty high too. I also try to adjust my nasal pillows so that the air blast is going "straight through" as much as possible, not bouncing off the sides of my sinuses.
