Bipap needs new plug

Post by Wayne02 » Wed Feb 20, 2013 1:19 pm

Hello,

A relative uses a Respironics bipap auto with bi-flex, last design in this series, 5 button. We realize the machine is old and that insurance will partially pay for a new machine every X years, but we want this one fixed to keep as a backup.

The plug on the end of the 24vdc switching power supply has worn and takes some wiggling to get it to contact and power up the machine each time the plug is removed/installed into the machine. One of these days it will fail to make contact completely. The receptacle on the machine itself looks to be in good order.

A complete new power supply is $160.

Any idea where I can source such a plug? It kind of looks like some sort of din plug but I've not seen that pin arrangement.

Thanks

Would that be this plug you are needing? For the Legacy series (pre M series bipap)?

This place repairs machines...maybe they know of a place to get one that doesn't cost so much.

You know you can often find these old Legacy series machines on craigslist pretty cheap. Might be able to buy a machine and get the power cord that comes with it for less that the online prices for just the power supply.

Yep, that's the one. Good idea on craigslist, I'll take a look.

Thanks

It may be that the problem is in the cable itself and not the plug. Perhaps the wire has cracked and that is what is being moved when you wiggle the plug in the machine.

If you have a volt-ohm meter, you can check to see if the proper voltage is present when the power transformer is plugged into the wall but not the CPAP machine.

A thorough cleaning, some judicious bending of the parts of the plug, and maybe some DeoxIT gold might help.
