Vent air bothersome

Post by Chris17 » Wed Feb 13, 2013 8:46 am

Last night was my fifth on CPAP and I am finding the air that comes out the vent to be particularly bothersome during the night. No matter what position I am in the air either hits my arm, my face, or the blankets. The cold air on my arm is uncomfortable. When I feel it on my face I am not sure if it is that or a leak. When it hits the blankets it makes a lot of noise. In the summer I might not mind the cold air as much, but now it is waking me up. I put it back on ramp and sometimes can fall back to sleep - sometimes not.

Is this something I will get used to in time? Any tricks or ideas to deal with this would be appreciated.

For what it's worth, I have three masks: Opus 360, Swift FX and Aloha. Of the three, the Swift FX has the fewest issues with the exhaust air impinging on stuff. So it doesn't get much better than that. Flannel sheets and pillowcases help; they don't make as much noise, but until the mask designers address the problem of exhaust air impinging on bedding, you'll have to do the best you can do.

Agreed. Also have the Swift FX and it has a loud vent when it comes up against sheets/etc. Do you have any kind of hose management? I find that when the hose hangs overhead with the swift, it helps keep the vent upward.

I have not gotten any hose management yet but I can look into it. Thanks.

The DME is supposed to call me back tomorrow to discuss, so I'll see if they have any ideas.

If you could wear a nasal, rather than nasal pillow, mask, you should try a Mirage Activa Lt. It has a jillion little holes around in a circle that don't seem to hit anywhere - very quiet and non-irritating. Not the regular Activa, but the Lt.

The Mirage Micro also has a very mild vent.
Cloth masks like mine blow down over the lips, but gently (reminds me when I forget to tape my yap)
