mask comfort and leaking

Post by cello_dreams » Mon Feb 11, 2013 12:10 pm

I've been using CPAP for about 4 months. I started with the Quattro FX and experienced a lot of leaking around the upper part of the mask (near my eyes). My provider said to be careful when putting on the mask that I tilt it and place it on the bridge of my nose first, then bring the bottom part down to my face and attach the straps. That helped but I still seem to, apparently randomly, experience some leakage.

So, we decided to try a different mask, the Phillips Respironics AMARA. This mask solved the leakage problem, but it irritates the bridge of my nose, raising a bright red welt. Although I could probably live with it from the cosmetic aspect, I'm worried that the irritation my cause some sort of permanent damage or even skin cancer. When I use a small piece of bandaid where the welt is normally raised, it minimzes the size of the welt, but seems to cause the mask to leak near where the bandaid is.

Has anyone experienced this sort of issue with these particular masks? Any idea how I can troubleshoot these issues? Is there a third type of mask that might be more suitable for me?

TIA,
Phil

padacheek.com has a nose pad that should help your situation.

LSAT, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.

Perhaps even a Pad-a-Cheek mask liner.
