I'm getting a cold

Post by walking coma » Wed Feb 06, 2013 5:18 pm

I love my pilairo but I'm so congested it's recommended that I get a full face mask. I need something that won't make me too claustrophobic and something that doesn't have too much headgear because the more the straps the more I'll still feel it on my head the next day. Please send me your suggestions.

The quattro fx full face has a fairly simple straps. There are two on it... but didn't have the large headgear some of the others had. I wore this through two titrations... while Im no pro, it seemed about as comfortable as an object strapped to my face could be.

The Hybrid mask uses nasal pillows along with the interface over the mouth. It will have the least amount of presence on your face of any of the the full face masks.
Innomed/Respcare Hybrid...comes with 3 sizes of oral cushion.
ResMed Liberty ...you have to choose which size because it only comes with one cushion.
So I would suggest the Innomed Hybrid...better chance for getting optimal fit.

In the meantime...treat the nasal congestion that comes with the cold just like you would if you weren't on the cpap machine.
Meds for congestion and drainage...lots of saline spray...tiny bit of Afrin for emergency opening (but be careful not to over use) and generally anything to reduce the symptoms you are having..

You might increase the humidifier setting...sometimes the added moisture really helps the nasal mucosa...think hot steamy shower and how that help clear out the nose for a little while.

I have one and I can't stand it when I am congested or have a cold. The chin flap keeps my mouth closed and having anything against my nostrils trying to push drives me crazy. I prefer my leaky quatro for that time period.

Oh, and stay in bed with your mask on - I always feel less congested when I have my mask on.
