Plugged up ears upon waking up

Post by SueKZ » Wed Feb 06, 2013 5:02 pm

Hi all!
Is it common when using a CPAP machine to wake up with plugged up ears? Hubby has been having this for a few weeks now. He doesn't have a cold or anything. His ears eventually clear out, but it takes a long time. It pretty annoying for him. Any ideas? He has been on CPAP since early Dec. and doing well otherwise.

Not a common complaint. Probably should have the ears checked by a doctor.
Sometimes the Eustachian tubes allow for some of the air to sneak into the inner ear and create the plugged feeling or for some people dizziness.
The doctor may have some ideas (once he determines nothing else is going on) like maybe some meds to help limit the plugged feeling or maybe even a little reduction in pressure to see if that helps.

I experienced some ear issues the first couple of week of using my CPAP. Sort of like the feeling I get when I get water in my ear that I can't get out. I even had my right ear actually "gurgle" one night! It went away after about a week and I have not had a problem since.

I get this sometimes. My ears will plug. Left ear is worse than the right ear. I get rid of it by turning the machine off, swallowing...its a mild valsalva maneuver...and turn the machine back on. I normally just ignore the ear plugging.
