Mask replacement time, hybrid for backup?

Post by cosmo » Wed Feb 06, 2013 4:40 pm

I'm due up for a free mask from my DME.

I'm all stocked up with my favorite daily mask, a Swift LT nasal pillow. I have over 3 years worth of stock.

My sick time mask is a Quattro full face. I also have an extra cushion in a sealed bag. I would like a different sick day mask or a mask for severe congestion.

I'm thinking about trying a hybrid for the severe congestion days. I have congestion each night and the nasal pillows are great. I had severe congestion the other day with both noses blocked greatly. I did not want to use the full face mask and masked up as normal with a chinstrap. Side sleeping with nasal pillows were able to condense the congestion to one side. I took a gamble but I don't think should try that again.

The Hybrid is great -- but given all of the variables : 3 mouth pads, 3 nasal pillows & a complex strap system - it takes some time to size. I'm on night 3 with it, last night was a major step back for the worse -- made a minor change in pillow height and all hell broke lose - was only able to sleep an hour with it. My first night I was able to sleep 5 hours with it and had low leakage.

I'm going back to Taping + Chin Strap + my SwiftFX pillows tonight - new masks can really put a damper on your sleep.

Yeah, I don't like change either. I'm thinking a hybrid would be a compromise. Full face is the last resort.

Cosmo - who is your Northern California DME? I've been looking for one and am also in Northern California.

I have Kaiser. Apria sends me the stuff and I have no choice in the DME. I don't think people would recommend them.

Cosmo,

I just got my Hybrid last week & it takes work to learn this mask. Don't wait until you are congested, I've tried it 3 nites, taking a few nites off before trying again. I think the trick is in the sizing, I just can't get it right.

Not trying to discourage you from this mask, just saying when you get it, take the time to get your 'size' then it will be ready when you need it.

Jen
