Trouble with Encore data
Trouble with Encore data
I haven't been online for quite some time so I don't know if other people are experiencing this problem. I have never had a problem obtaining my data from Encore. Today I tried and I got a message " A Philips Resperonics card was not found" and it won't let me download any data. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Trouble with Encore data
The not found message is likely because your computer does not recognize the card. This can happen is a couple of ways. First, the SD card reader slot may have failed and needs to be replaced. If you have a USB port, you can get an external SD card reader and use that. My original SD reader slot failed some time ago and that's what I do. The current external slot I use is made by ProMaster and is available at your local camera shop most likely, otherwise Walmart, etc.
The second possibility is that the card has become corrupted or damaged in some way and is unreadable (see below).
If you have another card, try formatting it and putting it in your machine so the machine will write all the appropiate files that Encore needs. Do not try to read this card into Encore at this time. Encore gets fussy and won't load files older than the most recent data it has loaded and I don't know of a way to get it to behave and load older data. Just keep the new card to be used if you decide that old one is not recoverable and / or needs to be replaced.
Before you do that, try to look at the card with Windows Explorer to see it is being recognized and if you can see any files. If you can see all the files, then try re-booting you computer and starting over. Sometimes things get fussy and re-booting clears them up.
It may be that the card has become corrupted in what is called the boot sector and can't be read anymore. If that is the case it might still be possible to recover the data but its iffy at best. SD card makers sometimes supply file recovery software to help in this process. You have to perform a quick format on the card. DO NOT DO A FULL FORMAT because that will erase everything. Then run the recovery software and you may get all the data files back.
If the amount of data lost is not significant, then just use a newly formatted card and continue. If you determine the card has been corrupted but you finally can get the data off, I'd still replace the card since it will likely fail again.
Hope this is some help.
James
