sanitizer machines

i'm tired of getting the same cold over and over again (4th in 2 months) despite cleaning my equipment all the time. i'm ready to fork over the money for a sanitizer machine. any recommendations? does anyone have the SoClean? Thanks in advance.

It is quite expensive. If your immunity is low, or you have OCD, it might be worth it for the peace of mind.
Very few people really need this gadget. Who is trying to sell you one?
We had a friend who sold fire alarms door to door; the sales literature is intended to scare the crap out of folks!

No one is trying to sell me one. I'm doing this of my own accord. I have been on CPAP for about 2 months and am on my
4th cold. I've never had this happen before. I don't have OCD but I guess I'm more anal thn most! I'm thinking the colds have coincided with CPAP and anything than can help me clean my equipment better might help.

I thought about getting one as I DO have chronic bronchitis and if I catch a cold I'm in real trouble - and I looked closely at the SoClean machine, but opted away from it and am waiting for a better option. The SoClean machine uses ozone to clean the cpap equipment - granted it 'says' that it dissipates after two hours, but you know. . .that stuff is like breathing in bleach for people like me. Ozone destroys lung tissue. . .so when they come up with a gentler way to kill the bugs, I'm actually safer just making sure my cpap tubing and machine are thoroughly cleaned properly. I have been sick more with the machine than before - and mold is an issue in my old house - so I do have my eyes peeled for something go come onto the market that doesn't have such a high risk.

By the time you are through with a cold your body has built an immunity to that particular virus. So it is unlikely that you are re-catching a cold from your cpap equipment whether you wash it, or sanitize it, or just ignore it completely. Cold viruses do mutate but not that fast (if they did you'd never get rid of the cold as it would always be ahead of your immune system). So like chunky frog said, if it makes you feel better, fine, but it is probably a waste of money.

I just got one of these because my water reservoir was constantly filled with pink or orange gunk. I use distilled water as often as I can, but sometimes I run out. Once the gunk gets in there it's really hard to get out of all the nooks and crannies. I am terrible about cleaning my equipment, and tired of my face smelling like mildew in the morning. This seemed like the perfect solution. I can't really review how well it works yet, because I just got it and am using it with a new hose, mask, and reservoir. It's kinda big, but it's really nicely designed and packaged, and seems very substantial. There's $100 off the original price of $350 right now. Since I use this every night, and I know I'm not going to do a good job of keeping things clean, I think it's well worth the $250. Set up was easy, and now I just put my mask in the box in the box in the morning and that's it. This will be really awesome if it works.

I found this thread because I did start wondering if ozone, or activated oxygen is dangerous. I know you're not supposed to breath it. The machine runs for 20 minutes at 10am, then they say after two hours it has all dissipated and been filtered into regular oxygen. So I really give it 12 hours before I use my cpap. Seems like this should be fine. If anyone knows anything about this, please reply.

Ozone will help with the microbes, but will not take the place of regular washing,
which is needed to remove everyday grunge--which definitely affects seal, smell, and longevity of parts.

I own the SoClean & love it. Simple & no fuss way to clean your equipment. As as the ozone concern. When you get ready to put your mask on run your CPAP for 20 seconds. This is in the manual.

These machines do NOT clean in any way, shape or form.

They might kill germs, but there's no way for them to remove "dirt." The dirt, dust, goo, dead germs, etc. are NOT going to magically turn into some non-toxic gas and magically waft it's way out of your CPAP equipment.

You still need to clean the machine as you normally would.

Personally, I'm VERY skeptical they do much of anything to kill germs.

"Sanitary" - maybe. But it's not going to remove skin oils, dries sweat, etc...
