Swift LT users, headgear position

Post by cosmo » Tue Jan 15, 2013 12:31 pm

I use mine like in the first photo. I didn't realize I was using it incorrectly until I opened a new one and was fitting it on without looking at my old one to see position. It was uncomfortable using in the correct position for me. Maybe that is why I ended up like the photo.

It is near the eye at the cheekbone and far away from the ears.

I never had it slip off or had major leaks like this. I find that with it on like that, I can take it off real quick and pop it back on real quick. I don't need any adjustments.

Typical of the leaks I see or lack thereof.

I wear it routed over my head. You can wear it that way, or with the tube loose / hanging down as you prefer.

The most important thing as with most nasal pillows is the right pillow size. The second most important thing is the angle of the pillows. They need to be "flat" with the angle of the nostrils, so that it fits even with the nares. You don't want it pulling "up" or facing 'down' - it won't result in good seals or comfort.

You can see how I wear mine:

There's nothing wrong with having the tube loose instead of over the head, as I said. I prefer over the head by a lot, but that's me. (I turn a lot asleep and sleep on my side/stomach)

The LT tends to bother the top crease of my ears if it isn't fitted correctly. I also have to play around the with fit of the nasal pillows so it's just right, but when it's just right it's awesome.

As far as the headgear goes, you (generally) have to get the forward part of the headgear to go between the eyes and ears, roughly halfway, then adjust the BACK strap so it sits there at that angle. Then adjust the top part by just tightening it enough so it's still fairly loose.

The angle on the nose at the pillows part is set by the turning thingy in the part where it joins the headgear, and also if you wear it overhead, by where the tube goes through the headgear clip. If it's too "tight" there, it will pull up the tube, like giving yourself a piggy nose. If it's too lose, it will pull the pillows "down" and unseat them. You can keep the pillows secure by having the headgear properly adjusted - it takes some fiddling and then a few nights of dialing it in. Tightening the straps down to make the pillows seal is ALWAYS the wrong thing to do.

Another trick: you can make the tube "longer" (for a different angle) if you clip the cpap hose instead of the swift LT hose. (if needed)

I haven't had to adjust my LT at all. I had been using it for 1.5 months now. I had it dialed in since the first few days. It just fits every time I put it on. I do make sure to count the little cog wheels so the pillows are at the same position each day. The headgear straps are never removed or adjusted.

Only when I decided to have use a second headgear while one is drying is when I found my odd strap positions.

Like any mask, when you have it dialed in, you can adjust it back to the "right" fit very quickly, if needed. They just stay in the right place for the most part.
