Canadian Websites?
I have been browsing this website ever since I was informed I had OSA, but only recently decided to join, I've done a quick search and noticed noone has asked this before.. I also noticed almost everyone here is either located in a large enough city they have easy access to a DME, or they live in the USA and can order off cpap.com and not get huge shipping fee's
I how-ever do not, I live in Rural Manitoba, so I've been looking online for a place to purchase supplies (filters, new masks, ect...) when needed, but every place I find (in Canada) the prices are almost double... if not triple that of cpap.com.
example being; I can drive to Winnipeg, MB go to my DME and get a replacement for my Quattro FX when needed for $300.00, I then look at cpap.com and see the same one for only $185.00..
I have noticed a few posts saying people have ordered from cpap.com that live in Canada before; but being a "broke college" student I'm afraid the shipping / customs fee's may be a little to much.

Canada has much better medical care than the U.S.

I live in a remote area in BC. I order my stuff from Clinical Sleep Solutions in Burnaby BC (I have no affiliation with the company). I have been happy with their services.

Re: Canadian Websites?
This point I will never argue, but I really do with our insurance companies would let us order online as well; in the long run it would save both parties money.ChicagoGranny wrote:Canada has much better medical care than the U.S.
another example being, I have 2 ways I could get a cpap;
1: going threw Manitoba Health, I get a basic cpap setup (machine & mask) and they cover everything
2: going threw my private insurance I could get a cpap threw a DME and hope they cover something.
well when I did the overnight study I found I could not stand the constant pressure so I'd need a a-flex system, I went to my DME and they contacted my insurance company on my behalf (Rana Care Group has some amazing staff!) and was setup with a PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex
the issue I find though, is that they are charging my insurance company $2,150 for it!!
if my insurance company would let me purchase online I could get the exact same unit for less then 1/2 that.... sadly its the same with supplies like I stated above, but my private insurance will only cover "basic" items
Oh well, back to doing some online digging!
Thanks! I'll give them a shothopingitworks wrote:I live in a remote area in BC. I order my stuff from Clinical Sleep Solutions in Burnaby BC (I have no affiliation with the company). I have been happy with their services.

You have to call them. They are not allowed by the manufacturers to show the prices online.CavemanSean wrote:Thanks! I'll give them a shothopingitworks wrote:I live in a remote area in BC. With regard to ordering from cpap.com - there is no customs duties on medical supplies there is only shipping charges which are not very onerous. However Resmed is not allowed to be sold to international customers. So unless you have a friend in the states to ship it to that is a problem. There are sites which will receive and forward to you but that costs money again.
As far as what the insurance gets billed, there is often a big difference between what gets billed and what is paid. You might want to go through MB Health and get their system and mask. This will allow you to have a back up incase of problems and have a chance to play with masks.

I also didn't know I could do both, I'll have a look into it and see what can be done, as like you said, it'd be nice to have a backup (which is my main reason for looking online.. backup mask & a-flex machine would be a god send if something where to happen.

No reason why a private individual can't buy their own stuff. You will need a copy of your prescription. Make sure it has a range (ie 9-16) and "Mask of patients choice".CavemanSean wrote: Ah, now that I didn't know.

You might also want to check Kijiji and craigslist. Though I find that the Canadian sellers want as much as a new online system for a second hand one. Don't send money in advance if you go this route.
You can also chose to get just your mask and supplies through MB health.

Sleep Solutions displays their prices. You have to sign up as a member to see them. You don't need an rx to purchase a mask but you do to purchase a machine. Their machine prices tend to be much higher than cpap.com. Thus, I purchased my Devilbiss inteli Autoadjust from cpap.com.

Re: Canadian Websites?
Coastalsleep.ca has almost matching prices to Cpap.com and they'll sell you Resmed products.

Thanks for the info *bookmarks*
Re: Canadian Websites?
I'm Canadian and ordered off CPAP.com no problem. Shipping was very reasonable - all told, I spent $100 on a new mask instead of the $300 my DME would charge.
They won't ship ResMed products to Canada, unfortunately. Something to do with an agreement the manufacturer.

Re: Canadian Websites?
I have ordered from cpap.com a few times and the charge is $17. (no duty) so you are sometimes further ahead than buying in Canada. It is ridiculous that the insurer won't let us claim US products.
Re: Canadian Websites?
I would get MB Health to pay for the basic package and then claim anything else that can through your insurance.
I'm in similar boat, my extended health benefits will cover a certain dollar amount every 5 years. So I will submit to my insurance company for the 1st $$ and then after that I will cover out of pocket,

It depends on who your insurer is. My insurance pays 100% of covered items such as masks and hoses, no matter where I've bought them (cpap.com included).Elle wrote:I have ordered from cpap.com a few times and the charge is $17. I'm workin' on it.
