Hello all CPAP users. I'm about to buy my first CPCP machine. If you could help me with a few questions, I'd really appreciate it. I'm thinking about buying the respironics PR System One Remstar Plus CPAC Machine with Cflex for $369 and the Pilaro Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with head Gear for $88.00 from CPAP.com. My partner is a light sleeper. Is this machine quiet? Is there a better machine than this for quietness? Are there any Aussie users who have bought from CPAP.com? How did you find them? Did you need a power adapter for Aussie power supply? Did you have any problems with this? How long did it take for CPAP.com to ship the equipment to Australia? I think that's all I need to know. I tried the Pilar Nasal Pillow Mask at the sleep clinic and it seemed to work OK. Any other information that you might think I would need in buying the right equipment would be welcome. Thanking you in anticipation. Cheers, Judy.

Welcome to the forum Judy!

CPAP.com is great to order from, I don't know how long it will take to ship to you, but if you ask, I'm sure they will tell you. After what I've learned here, I would go for the AUTO machine. My hubby just started on the PR S1 Auto & it is super quiet. The Piliaro mask is not quiet however, I love the mask but if your partner is a light sleeper, I'd re-think that mask. The Swift FX might be a little quieter - see what some others recommend on this. Another great and VERY quiet mask is the SleepWeaver Elan, its a cloth mask & has small exhale holes that I think are quiet.

I can't answer the power adapder question, hopefully someone else can.

Once you get your equipment, be sure to register & fill your equipment into the User Control Panel.
Jen

That is all you need for a power adapter for either ResMed S9 or Respironics System One.

This is what it comes with-
Image

They come with a power brick just like the laptops do. 110v-220v.

Electrical Requirements 100 - 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz (An adapter may be needed to plug the CPAP into a wall outlet outside the US.) 12volt DC

I would have thought you would be better buying locally in Australia from a Sleep Specialists such as from http://www.resmed.com.au so you purchase the correct equipment to suit you.
Could be an expensive mistake if you Import the items and they are not correct for you.

Hi Judy
the PRS1 Plus is not data capable machine. would not tell you anything other than how many hours using the machine each night

you would be better off with PRS1 Auto priced $595 including the humidifier which is a steal at this price and supported by SleepyHead software
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... -flex.html

you might want also include spare hoses, water tank, mask and mask parts, filters, etc.. to save on shipping costs and these things do wear out and to be replaced periodically

Hi Judith. Fellow Aussie here. One of the big problems facing us Aussies is that most US companies (including CPAP.com) won't ship to Australia. I'm not 100% sure about Respironics machines but it's certianly the case when it comes to all things ResMed. The great irony here of course is that that ResMed is in fact an Australian company, located in Sydney. You can of course order from companies here in Oz but we end up paying more than double the price. All is not lost however. There are some companies (such as Secondwind.com) that sell zero hour and second hand machines and ship to Australia. Check them out.

Hi Judith

Buying from US will be cheaper and as shown above it's not to hard to buy a replacement power cord. Will probably only cost you about $10 off ebay. However there, are a few things to think about.

1. Shipping charges are quite expensive. If you happen to be going to the US or have a friend it makes it much cheaper.

2. Some machines the manufacturer won't allow them to be shipped out of the US so you might have trouble finding a reputable dealer to sell you one.

3. If there is any problem/defect with the machine you will need to send it back to the US. Neither Resmed nor Phillips Respironics seem to honour the warranty here for a machine bought from the US. This will again be fairly expensive shipping cost and a fair bit of time not having a machine. If you were to buy from a reputable Australian outlet, they would usually give you a replacement machine while your machine was being repaired. (I had to take mine back twice during the warranty period).

4. If you have health insurance with "extras" most include a rebate for CPAP machines. It varies but something like $300-750 depending on your insurer. I spoke to a few health insurers and they will not give you this rebate for a machine purchased from the US.

5. You can get the Australian retailers to compete with each other on price a bit. However it will never be as low as the US.

I like the swift fx mask too. Fairly quiet and comfortable.

I'd suggest spending a bit extra to get a data capable auto adjusting machine too.

Maybe one of these:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-sys ... -tube.html (Newer model)

Good luck.

If the machine breaks, you can buy another from USA Doesn't make sense to pay 100% more just for warranties. Maybe a pro gambler can chime in odds/pro/cons of this scenario

Hi Judith, I found it beneficial to buy locally and build a relationship with a local supplier until I worked out exactly what I needed. They have been great with letting me hire masks to try before I buy and also it has been good to have someone local when there was a problem with my machine - they gave me a loan machine right away.
I then bought a used machine from Secondwind but needed to buy a new plug in Australia.
Also, your electricity company will give you a small rebate if you tell them you use CPAP

Judith,

Freight from USA would be approx $75 with SecondWindCPAP, Mark Seager the owner gives 2 years warranty (Back to USA) on most Open Box units, 12 months on gently used equipment.

Resmed in my opinion is the only way to go, give them a call or email, you wont get a better deal

Very very bad news....since late last year internet exporters are forbidden to export Respironics and ResMed machines. I got in just before this changed. I found out as I tried to order mask replacement parts and my order was tuned down. The only way around this is a trip to the US or have them ship a friend. Bad news for free markets. Here in Japan you can rent monthly with very demanding conditions (long wait at the doctor, many checks monthly) or buy for $5000 or so. I got in at $595 for my machine with $100 postage or so! Now I had to order a different mask...non Respironics/ResMed

Here is a photo of the power brick for 3 different machines. I did this for a different thread. They all use the same removable 2 pin power patch cable. Ignore the red line as that is the machine one should not buy if they want any useful data
