recording myself to check if I'm snoring

Post by justacpapuser » Mon Jan 07, 2013 4:05 pm

On a recent followup meeting with my doctor, he asked me if I know whether I am still snoring.
I have no idea, though the technician in the sleep study said I didn't snore.
But a few months have passed since and I also use a different mask if that makes a difference.

Any ideas on how to record myself? I don't intend on listening for 7-8 of white noise.
I assume there is software which only record if it has something to record.
The problem is that I think the air coming through the mask ventilation might be high enough that it'll get recorded.

Any ideas are welcome.

The PR System One machine records snores if there are any...and sometimes when there aren't any.

They will show on your Event Flag graph with both SleepyHead or Encore .

you want a voice ( or sound ) activated recording device that will only record if it there is sound - you can adjust its sensitivity. Here's one example picked at random - http://www.atrecorder.com/

IMO, it's silly to play back your sleep while most XPAPs do show it in their Snore graph.

But you'll need to reduce the pressure in your XPAP to about 4 cm for the test time, so that it would not treat the snoring.
Usually, snoring is treated with pressure of 10 cm and above.

We see Snore in Snore graphs of the remaining Snore after the XPAP tried to treat it, like this one:

And then there are the sleep doctors who consider an audio recording to hold more weight than a machine's snore graph.

My wife has great hearing and she says I have stopped snoring since going on CPAP. According to ResScan, I am still snoring. The wife over rules the electronics in this situation.

Do you have an iPhone or iPad? My doc had me download the free app "Sleeping U" -- it audio records all night and you can look at a report with graph in the a.m. Easy!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd just like to clarify something. I know I DID snore and my doctor knows that too.
He just asked me if I know whether I still snore.

I recorded my sleep sounds with a cheap Sansa Clip MP3 player with record function. I used the free software and method shown in this link to zero in on the snoring and sleep disturbances:
