THe Dumb Things You Do Because You Have Sleep Apne
I emptied out my humidifier, filled it with water, turned it on and wasn't getting any pressure so I checked the hoses for leaks and there wasn't any. Read my manual and it said there might be a problem with the blower. It's the weekend my sleep clinic is closed,I'm a newbie and very terrified at the thought of having to sleep without my cpap. I go into the kitchen and there laying on my counter is the TOP to my humidifier. Duh
I wear glasses because I'm nearsighted. I have 2 pairs which I alternate using. I leave my glasses all over the place. I don't need them to read. I go into the kitchen,my favorite room in the house see my glasses on the table, put them on right over the other pair that I am already wearing. Double Duh
This is my brain on sleep apnea. Tell me about yours.

I only need the specs for reading. Sometimes I have a pair on top of my head and a pair on my face at the same time. I just don't know how people can work on their IPads, Iphones and all with such tiny screens. Give me a nice big PC screen (right now I have a 20" screen) and it still requires that I put on glasses if I leave the zoom level at 100%. I have reading glasses in my purse, the kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom and car (which I use just for reading maps, etc.)

Just yesterday morning when I went to make my cup of tea, I "came to" as I was trying to stuff 2 quart sized iced tea bags in my cup! Now, I can blame it on the sleep apnea!

I sleep in my reading glasses (I also usually fall asleep with my kindle). I have a pair in each room of the house & sometimes put them on over my contacts (that wakes me up!) I have the 'bi-focal' contacts. One sees near, one sees far. Even with them, I put on reading glasses for tiny type. Problem is I forget they are on & go about my day with glasses on my nose or on my head or both!. Entire family jokes about my glasses.MagsterMile wrote:I only need the specs for reading. Re: THe Dumb Things You Do Because You Have Sleep Apne
If I really think about it I could probably come up with a few as I have had severe SA for quite a few years, but one time in particular is certainly a dumb thing that I will never be able to live down with my wife and her family.
My wife and I were at her Mom's house one night a number of years ago (pre sleep apnea diagnosis). It was near the Halloween time of year and we were sitting around after dinner talking with other family members who had also come over. Well, as any of you here know, being sleep deprived and then sitting down after a nice big meal is a bad combo, so I fell fast asleep. I sort of remember being awakened a few times while we were there because of making 'Too Much Noise' and was honestly doing my best to try to listen to the conversation and stay awake, but it was just impossible. When it finally came time to leave (FINALLY... <sigh>), my wife woke me up and told me it was time to go and to get up and grab my coat, so I groggily did so and then headed out the front door. For some unknown reason, while I was heading out the door I had a mischievous thought and decided to blow out the candle my Mother-in-Law had in the Jack-o-Lantern (Pumpkin) on a stand just outside the front door. Well, I blew pretty hard between the big toothy smile and started to walk away, but noticed nothing happened, so I stopped and blew again, and even again, but still nothing !! I looked back at my wife and some of the other family standing there near the door and they were looking at me like I had completely lost my mind. They were all puzzled at what I was doing and wondered why I was blowing on the electric Jack-o-Lantern ? I tried to make a joke about it but they all figured out pretty quickly and they always make sure to remind me about it every time Halloween comes around .

How about driving 10 hours straight when you have to FIGHT the drowsiness? That qualifies as dumb. DEAN

I don't know if it's sleep apnea or just plain stupid, but I have cracked eggs into the sink and stood there staring at the shells in my hand wondering what the heck just happened. I guess since I do have an official diagnosis of sleep apnea I can use it as my excuse

I pulled up to the exit gate in the parking ramp at work, and fell asleep waiting for the gate arm to raise up. A few minutes later, a car pulled up behind me and honked its horn. I woke up, waived my access card at the card reader, exited the ramp, and drove home. The truly scary thing is that this was situation normal for me. I was too stupid to know how stupid I was.

Before mi diagnosis I was in Florida. I fell asleep standing up, leaning on the fence to the pool. I burned 2 fingers and a hole in my shirt because I'd gone out to smoke .
That was dumb!

Re: THe Dumb Things You Do Because You Have Sleep Apne
Several times, I fell asleep at the reading table in my elementary classroom as I was listening to my students read. Also, as I was reading to all of the kids, I would nod off as I turned the pages of the book. I would catch myself just as I was about to fall off the chair. To this day, I'm amazed at the changes CPAP has made in my life.

I use one near contact and one far contact also, by any chance are you also left handed? From my extremely limited research I find that left handed people have a much higher success rate trying the near-far bifocal contact thing.I sleep in my reading glasses (I also usually fall asleep with my kindle). Early morning, waking up sleepy, I once put my undies on over my head thinking it was my bra. It took me a moment or two to figure out why it wasn't fitting right.

Re: THe Dumb Things You Do Because You Have Sleep Apne
Really? Interesting. I use "monovision" contacts as well, but I'm not left handed. My near-vision hasn't deteriorated as much as it will, so who knows how long I'll be able to tolerate this. As it is, if I know I'm going to have a lot of reading to do, I just wear my glasses. I find it a compromise, where neither my near nor distance vision is as good as it would be with glasses.Guest wrote:I use one near contact and one far contact also, by any chance are you also left handed?
