Hi all,
I just spoke with the RT at my DME and he said they may not be bringing the Mirage Ultra that I requested, as they are trying to stay away from Resmed products due to the higher expense. I told him that I wanted the Mirage Ultra because I had read about the new features it has and want it because of those. I told him I would pay the difference if necessary.
Is it THAT important that I get the Mirage Ultra FFM, or will any FFM suffice? I need to know if I should call the manager and insist on them bringing this. Advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
Antonio
Should I insist on the Mirage Ultra FFM?

Antonio,
What is most important is that you get a mask that fits and works for you. If what they bring doesn't work, then you must insist that they get you something that will work. I use the Ultra Mirge FF and it works great for me. Others here like the FP 431 or the Respironics ComfortFull 2.
It is all in what works for you!!!!

Antonio,
What's important is that you be able to get what you want.
They're probably going to charge your insurance $300 to $400 for your mask. You shouldn't have to pay any "difference".
When I checked into prices last year, a local DME would have charged me $255 for the mask plus another $60 for the "headgear".
The same setup from CPAP.COM was $140 complete.
This is why I absolutely refuse to deal with a local DME. They will try every way they possibly can to overcharge you and take advantage of you.
Make sure you get them to commit to document EVERYTHING you're being charged for and what amounts.
Good luck,
Den

really depends on the person. i'm not sure i would fuss over the difference between an f&P431 and umff, although a dme looking to cut expenses may not be offering an f&p 431 cuz the cost difference is not that great.
why don't you try this argument out on your dme? how about they go with umff, the leading preferred mask in the full-face category, rather than two masks of lesser price and quality? of course, what he's worried about is that even with umff, you may still need another mask because it may not work for you, and that possibly you will be happier with a cheaper mask. but the numbers are against his proposition. it is actually less likely that you will need mask #2 if you go with umff, so umff is the cheapest option in the long run. tell him you know how rough the full-face mask category is. they're tougher to fit--at least that's what people/dme's say--regardless of whether or not it is true.
good luck.
