repair on cpap

Post by herefishy » Mon Dec 31, 2012 11:21 am

So if you buy a machine out of pocket, how do you send it in for repair if it needs it? Like if you buy it from an individual?

Repairs under warranty are tricky. From what I have heard, only the DME can send the unit to the mfg for in warranty repairs. I don't know what you would do if the unit was purchased privately.

I would try contacting the manufacturer. They might be able to help, although they may want only the DME, if you want to pay for repairs, they might be able to arrange them if you send unit to them. This sounds tricky, since these machines are to be sold by a DME.

The warranty on my new PR machine is actually shocking to read -- a two year warranty from the date of sale to the DEALER, not the patient. And then, the warranty "is non-transferable by unauthorized distributors of Resp., Inc. products[....]" So does that mean non transferable to subsequent buyers after re-sale by the original patient?

It does say that for service contact your authorized dealer, or contact PR directly.

As far as I am concerned a warranty is a warranty and if something fails in the warranty period, it should be fixed by the mfg. The way PR writes their warranty terms is at best confusing, and at worst, deceptive.

Anyone ever bought a machine from a patient/craigslist, then had a warranty service honored? Dishonored?

Hello. we process warranty repairs for both hme dealers and patients all the time. The manufacturers will not accept the unit from the patient, so you do need to use either an hme dealer of authorized repair center. The manufacturer doesn't care who the current or past owner is or how the machine was purchased. All they want to know is the model, serial number, and what is wrong with the machine. Most manufacturers will just replace the cpap if it is under warranty. Out of warranty repairs can be handled the same way and are less expensive than you might think. Our average cpap repair is about $200 - but this of course depends on the model and issue. Hope this helps.

Our Sponser cpap.com is a dealer. I believe they can, for a bit of cash, accept a machine, test it, and then if they certify it as broken, then it can be replaced by the manufacturer. Of course it still costs shipping plus an evaluation fee, and the decision to replace is at the option of the manufacturer, for most of us that is either Resmed, or PR, or Intellipap.

I found out all of this out by chatting with cpap.com on the phone, and I might have misunderstood.

I know John, and he is a heck of a guy. This is certainly another fine option.
