Tried something different

Post by Peter East » Mon Apr 17, 2006 3:05 am

I thought i would share this with you all. I use a nasal pillow mask but i hate all the air coming out of the holes so i got a filter from my Fisher & Paykel mask, split it in two and sewed it to the outside of the holes. No more air blowing out in a great rush, a slight increase in effort to breath out but not much, the wifes happy no more drafts down the back of her neck when i try for a cuddle. What do you think ? can any one see any problems with idea. Thank you to everyones posts they have been a great help.

Hi,

Not too long ago there was a thread about how to/if it is OK to play with the exhale port, and the consensus was, be careful. When you breathe out, you exhale carbon monoxide. You don't want to trap this exhaled air at all because it is dangerous if you then inhale it again. So though it surely helps the problem of cold air on the bed partner, make sure it doesn't change your ability to exhale at all...

One of those "issues" that remains a bugaboo with the nasal pillows.

I have just recently done something similar. I took a thin piece of gauze using medical tape and single wrapped it from front to back on my CL2 of the return vent. I showed my dr. He was fine with it. He said as long as it was only one layer just to diffuse the blowing he didn't see a problem. He did not feel like I was in any danger of CO2 contamination. Plus it is better on my wife as well as a lot quieter.

But, even though my dr has said this I would be interested in hearing any other opinions or other ways anyone else has diffused those exhaust vents.

I think you meant to say "carbon dioxide"?

(The term "death breath" would otherwise apply.)

Yes, you are right, carbon dioxide... so, I left off one little oxygen

Thanks,
