heated hose?

Post by herefishy » Sun Dec 23, 2012 6:30 pm

Is there an alternative to the Aussie heated hose? The heated hoses I see online look like they are made for specific units.

May I offer my experience with preventing hose rainout. I purchased a doubleweight insulated hose cover from a well known on-line CPAP dealer for about $20. or so. It is made of material like an insulated sports jacket-smooth nylon inside and out filled with polyester fiberfill . I snug it against the end of the hose at the water reservoir and against the point where my hose attaches to the face of my "Activa" nasal mask. I loop heavy rubber bands around each end to keep the cover snugly on the hose. I keep a cool bedroom-62 degrees, and run my humidifier at the old Respironics Remstar's maximum 5 setting. There is never any rainout, plus the insulated cover acts as a flexshield to the hose ends and has prevented cracking the hose where it enters the rubber cuff. As a result, my hoses last a couple of years or more.

I never have to remove the insulated cover when I wash the inside of the hose, and I do scrub the hose out weekly with warm soap solution and a LONG bristle brush from a well known CPAP on-line dealer.

My concern about a heated hose is not for rainout, but I am interested in the insulated hose cover. We sleep in very cool places, sometimes down in the 30's and breathing the cold air is very uncomfortable. I thought the 2300 looked like it might fit my situation, thanks.

I have used the Hybernite 2300 heated hose. Works great. Got one last winter when using the PR S1 machine and my cold bedroom temps was giving me ice cube nose no matter how high I set the humidifier setting even in Classic mode and even with a Padacheek fleece cozy.
Don't use a hose cozy with it though. It will get too warm. Much too warm for comfort.

Yeah! Ice cube nose is what I get.
Looks like there's an on/off switch on the 2300, do you know what this "power pal" is that is advertised up above?
e?
