CPAP stand 12"w x 12"d - any ideas

Post by jencat824 » Sat Dec 22, 2012 7:05 pm

I'm looking for a stand for my hubby's new CPAP. We want something to set the CPAP machine on his nightstand, which is 12"wide x 12" deep, hopefully several inches high. CPAP will sit on top, he will still have an area for his 'junk' underneath. Junk includes 2 cell phones + wallet + money + change + general junk he carries in his pockets to work. I'm trying to find something at Staples or Office Depot, but most of their's are too wide.

Any ideas?
Jen

Are you thinking of a shelf ON TOP of an existing night stand?
Will that be stable enough? You don't want a new cpap to tumble!
I had my machine on a shelf just below the pillow top on the mattress,
but I like it much better on a little stool about 13" high.
My "junk" now sits where the S9 did, above my Autoset.

I don't think you'd want the machine higher than the mattress, he might experience rainout besides being unstable.

Here's a picture of what I use. The machine stays in the second drawer. I keep the mask and other small supplies in the top drawer. Extra hose and stuff are in the bottom drawer. The whole thing has wheels, so I can mover it out of the way if I need to. It is very stable inside the drawer, and it stays closed during the day. I have a cat who is known for puking at altitude for maximum splatter. At night, I can hear the warning signs and reach her if she is near my machine. When I am awake, it is fully protected by being inside the closed drawer.

And the filter doesn't have to work too hard as there is very little dust in there. My mom uses the same model in the living room, with her machine on the floor, and her filter gets really bad in only a few weeks, while mine barely has any grey after a couple months.

Jen,
Try World Market or Cost Plus. My wife bought me a 12 x 12 (approximate size) five sided box made out of a fabric woven around a frame. I placed the box on one side with the opening facing outward. My brick sits on top with my distilled water, cleaner, Biotine etc underneath. I bet they made ones smaller in height.

Thanks guys, I'm going looking today. I measured myself, since I looked again and it looked larger than 12 x 12 & IT WAS! He apparently can't measure any better than he breathes in his sleep. Its 16 x 16, so that gives me more room to work with. Looking for monitor stand, since that seems most likely piece to find ready made.

Dori- it won't be above the mattress, since the bed is about 18" higher than existing nightstand. Its a waterbed, so actual mattress is about 1/2" lower, so I am going to make sure it doesn't reach bed height.

Frog - I am keeping stability in mind and he is getting the same hose set up as me -two 6' hoses together, bed too high for just 1 hose.

Zoo - I would like him to do that with existing nightstand, but he does not want to give up any of his drawers.

Thanks everyone, I'll let you know what I find.
Jen

My machine sits on a metal tray thats smaller than a tv tray and that sits on a bamboo style place mat that sits on my nightstand. You get a little heat from the machine and this seems to keep the heat away from the wood and it is pretty secure for the machine. You could try an organizer for his junk, heaven forbid I know that I would never use one. Maybe a tupperware container or something like that for his other stuff.

I would reverse the whole thing. Put the machine on the night stand and go to the kitchen department of your local hardware store and buy a rack that fits over it (used for stacking dishes/ mugs) and a small serving tray for the top of it to hold his junk.

Lots of times you can find things like that at the Goodwill/Salvation Army stores, any thrift store and not spend much money. If you can put the machine in a drawer, you can put it away and out of sight during the daytime.

Funny; when men estimate dimensions, they usually guess high. (old drafting joke)

Thanks so much for all the replies. I'm going with a monitor stand for his junk, kind of over the back top side of the nightstand, with the CPAP on the front of the nightstand, for now. That way he can stuff more junk behind the machine, then have an area above & behind to put wallet, cell phones, & other work related electronic items, then try to focus on CPAP for SLEEPING, LEAVE THE TECH JUNK MENTALLY AT WORK! I'm printing this thread for him, so he will know about all your suggestions. If we had enough room, I would go with a nightstand just for CPAP, & put this nightstand next to it.

He is going to be on vacation the 2nd wk in Jan, so we may drain & move the bed to make room for 2nd nightstand. That is a huge project, since we will have to refinish part of the floor & repaint the wall that is currently behind the bed. My bed is a PITA, but I still love it, lord only knows why.

Thanks again to all of you,
Jen
