yesterday I took a nap and go a thought to go back to my Quattro FX mask to see if my early problems were due to my just starting CPAP therapy.... 30 minutes in, I knew the mask was still a problem.
Yesterday was also cleaning day, so I took apart my Quattro and the Quattro FX and cleaned everything... I noticed that the straps were very different. Which got me thinking...why are they different & what if?
checked the internet and Resmed says that they are not interchangable.... yeah and cushions only last 30 days.
So, I played around with them, tried the fit and decided to give it a try. best setup that seemed to work was with my Quattro using the FX headgear.
so, I slept with the configuration last night...it felt great, my regular 2AM face farts never showed up AND my AHI was the lowest since starting at 0.78!!!
I may need to order a large size Quattro FX headgear straps to allow for more adjusting... but hey if it works, why not..
Has anyone else tried it or other headgear on the Quattro or the FX with success/ failures??

Re: headgear experiment
Interesting idea, I can see how it would apply pressure in a different way. So are you saying that in this configuration it would be better to go one size up in the headgear ( normal med in quattro needs large if using the FX headgear)?
Re: headgear experiment
A few months ago I ordered the Hans Rudolph 7600 V2 because I got tired of the lousy headgear that comes with the QuattroFX. Unfortunately I could not get the HR 7600 to hold a seal, no matter what I did.
The Hans Rudolph does have excellent headgear. Far superior to the thin and flimsy headgear of the QFX. It doesn't stretch out like the QFX headgear, and I haven't had to make any adjustments on the headgear straps in three months! I have also tried the HR headgear on the Mirage Quattro and it works great. The thing that's nice about the HR headgear is the top strap, which doesn't allow the mask to move around so much. I have almost no problem with nose bridge soreness on the M.Quattro when using the HR headgear.

Re: headgear experiment
I had soreness on my nose for the first few nights with the Quattro, but it went away.
Depending on your head size - a medium Quattro FX headgear will fit on the regular Quattro mask... It worked last night but for me, there was not a lot of room for adjustments in the straps during the night.
At least for one night, the Quattro FX headgear stopped my 2AM face farts from appearing.
I'm going to search for a large Quattro FX headgear to try this experiment some more.

It is surprising which headgear is interchangeable.

Re: headgear experiment
I'm jealous of all of the various options for nasal type masks, but my deviated septum prevents me from experimenting with them.
So I'm playing around with straps.. they are much cheaper & less painful than having surgery for my septum.

Re: headgear experiment
It's interesting, I've seen several people mention they can't use nasal masks or nasal pillows because they have a deviated septum. Maybe my deviated septum just isn't all that bad comparitively, because I've been able to use the Swift FX nasal pillows and I'm currently using the Sleepweaver Elan, both without any real trouble.
It's a bummer when another medical problem keeps us from fully exploring all CPAP-related options.
