Good FF Mask for a side sleeper?

Post by Newsgrouper » Fri Nov 30, 2012 6:42 am

Which FF masks are known to work well for side sleepers? Mine works well on my back but not so well on my sides.

Thank you

The Quattro has worked well for me and I am a 100% side sleeper. Have you tried the padacheek anti-leak strap?

I'm 100% a side sleeper as well. I use the F&P 431 and have had little trouble with it.

I use the F&P Forma and I sleep totally on my side and most nights have zero leaks.

+1 for the mirage quattro

It takes all of my side sleeping, tossing & turning with no issues. Even with my high pressures, my leaks are below 15 every night.

The bullfrog uses the Fitlife.
I use the Comfortgel FFM when I have to wear a full face.
We both sleep on our sides most of the time.

The FF Quattro is the best I have used so far, followed by the Quattro FX which is far less bulky, but a tad more prone to shifting up and leaking with movement (a trade off for not having a big forehead support). I just started testing a Hans Rudolph (DeVilbiss) V2 FF mask and so far have had good results -- it seems more robustly made than any mask I have used thus far, and really stays put on the face. Plus it has no forehead support. However initial sizing is tricky on that mask and I am still trying to figure out the best way to get a good seal without having to tighten down the mask to the point it leaves marks in the morning.

I am still waiting on Resmed or someone to make a full-face mask version of their Activa style nasal mask cushion. That would be a blessing for side/stomach sleepers.....

I use the Resmed Quattro quite a bit on my patients. I have tried the F+P full face mask but they seem to leak more often than not. Of course, it works on some patients but it seems like the Quattro works on a larger percentage.

+1 on the Forma. It has been working for my side sleeping for 6 months.

I used the Quattro FX and sleep on my side most of the time.

I think that as long as you find a mask that fits YOU well, then you can adapt it to side sleeping. You may have to make some adjustments will your pillow, etc, but it can work.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I use the Hans Rudloph 7600 V2. It seems to stay in place with no leaks no now matter how many times I change positions during the night. It's also very easy to clean just pop it into the dishwasher. The mask sizes run a little large so be sure to sure check for correct size before you order. I've tried many different full face masks but always end up coming back to this one to get the job done.

Sometimes, it's not the mask, but the bed pillow that makes side sleeping possible with whatever mask you use.
They sell contoured, or shaped pillows for cpap use; many find buckwheat or foam pellet pillows work nicely.
My favorite pillow is a cheapie contoured memory foam from Wal-Mart.
Hubby likes a thick, fluffy synthetic fiber pillow from BB&B.

One thing that can be just as important for a side sleeper is choosing a special pillow for side sleepers with FFMs. When I started using this one http://www.activeforever.com/p-4834-con ... Mgod9GMA8Q the mask stopped getting pushed aside, my leaks dropped dramatically, and my 95% pressure dropped.
