Leaks

Post by flutterby11 » Fri Nov 30, 2012 5:14 am

I am using the Mirage Fx for her mask with a chin strap. The chin strap did fall off last night. My leakage rate was 16L/hr and my AHI was 0.3. Should I worry about the leaks and try something different, or does this seem normal. Any suggestions? Thanks!

From what I understand, on Resmed machines, anything under 24.0 L/min leak rate is acceptable. The lower the better, but if you're sleeping through the night at 16.0 L/min and the leaks aren't waking you or causing any issues with your eyes or anything, I wouldn't worry about it. And successful CPAP therapy is obtaining an AHI under 5.0, so at 0.3 I'd say you're doing great!

I use an s9 autoset and a swift fx nasal pillow. The set up is very minimal and comfortable. My leak rate for the past 6 months is around 10. Some days better, some days worse. I sleep through the night more often than not since cpap. My AHI is almost always below 2. I am convinced that I am doing as much as I can do without introducing discomfort into my sleep.

I would say, you are too. How long have you been monitoring your results? If you are looking at a weeks worth of data, then let it go another week and see if there is a trend. How are you sleeping? Through the night or waking up occasionally? Last thing. How do you feel now, versus before cpap? Is it working?

Just my thoughts.

If my AHI is 0.3 I wouldn't care what my leak rate was.
