Caution about F&P Pilairo silicone tearing-

Post by BudSky » Wed Nov 21, 2012 7:04 pm

Had some trouble the other night with my Pilairo leaking badly. Upon inspection I found the silicone portion with the cushions had a tear about 1/2" long in it on top- the silicone is paper thin in this area.
I don't know if I inadvertently tore it when fitting the piece back onto the mask part after removal for cleaning or if it tore on its own. I've used it about 3 weeks.
The replacement part is about $25 so be careful!

I must have got a good batch. I've been rotating 3 of them for exactly 4 months now, and they are all still good.

I should have also mentioned that since I still can't seem to control "rainout" consistently using my Series 60 heated tube/humidifier combo, I frequently change pillows once during the night since I don't like that wet pillow feeling. I think I'm beyond figuring out rainout. I've tried and I've tried. I like a very cold room so I just deal with it.

I've had this happen & fixed the tear with superglue. Just lay your mask on a paper towel, apply superglue to the tear, hold in place using a qtip so the glue doesn't stick the tear to another part of the mask. I know some people probably think I'm nuts, but I fix a lot of mask problems, hose problems & headgear problems with superglue. Its my go-to stuff.

DH mentioned that some silicone mold material may work.
You may need to use silicone with the same catalyst as your damaged part, (which should be VERY clean.)
People have used Tegaderm to repair gel-filled silicone breast forms--also worth a try.

Similar! I'm out of town but I'll try to post a pic of mine when I get back home.
I will say my current local DME was great- went to buy a replacement and they gave me one!
Oddly I had ordered online a replacement, just in case, the day before it tore....$25 which is ridiculous, but oh well.
